There are no drivability issue the car stops fine. The light just stays on all the time what are somethings I can check on my own?

  • Ty St Nov 28, 2012

Check the brake fluid level if you haven't already. Take off each wheel independently and check the pads/shoes to make sure they are in good condition. Make sure the ABS sensor and sensor ring do not have any gunk or mud between them. Do a resistance check on the ABS sensors. Anything beyond that you will need a electronic diagnostic. Hope that helps.

Are there any drive ability issues when braking? If the ABS activates when you are slowing down at a stop light that is usually caused by a defective wheel sensor, and in some cases the ABS unit itself. Unfortunately the easiest way to get to the bottom of the ABS system is to have it connected to an ABS code scanner. Autozone does this for free on the ECM, but not ABS. I don't know if that has changed or not. Most shops charge $80 just to plug in the scan tool and give a diagnosis unless you have it repaired there as well.

With some makes and models this is normal. The PCM will reduce engine power when the traction control senses wheel slip as a safety precaution until traction is restored

ABS light and traction control light are on a 2001 ford mustang v-6 convertible. I just had the car painted and when I got home I notice the light then, don't know if that could have anything to do with it...

probably not from the paint but if the wheels were removed or othe suspension components then they may have inadvertantly left something unplugged or jared a connector loose

This needs a scanner hooked up to see what the computer has found as an error. They may be related.
