I just purchased a 98 Mercedes c180, petrol gas. Drove fine, shifted fine. Suddenly when I come to a stop, or slow down, shift into 1st gear and try to take off again, the car will not pick up speed, the rpm needle will go up but the car will barely crawl. I generally can't get the car going over 10kph, then it will sputter and die. If i restart the car it will take off from 1st gear ok, but then the same errors occur. Also, when I first start the car and give it gas, it sounds as if the engine revs up like it should! Mercedes hooked it up to diagnostic and can't find anything. They initially thought it was a bad clutch but they checked and appears fine. Also, mechanic drove it and no problem, however when it happens it makes it quite unsafe to drive! Any suggestions? shifts fine, no problems going into gear, stays in gear (or so it seems)

you should check 3 things. AIr, Fuel, and "spark"
your cars could have many problems. Ignition module, fuel injectors, Mass Airflow Sensor.
You should check into all of these 3 things.
a crank-no start could be many things.
it could even be a cam positions sensors resistance going up when the engine heats up. Cracnk- no start means testing. n like i said
The motor is getting Air, There is Fuel being put into the cylinders, and the Spark plugs are firing.

check and replace filter and fluids just like oil it tends to burn up and blacking and needs to be changed and flushed checking your tranny fluid it should be a red color not a dark red or with a black tint
