Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep grand cheerokee has a knock feeling from behind sometime.

When in stop and go sometimes when after taking off and then letting off the gas and while still moving and giving it gas again there is a knock and lundge mostly small but now and then hard like someone bumped you in the rear. I also noticed last night a burning smell and when I checked the transmission fluide I noticed a little smoke (very light) coming out of the tube.I had a friend check on his dionostic machine and he said it could be the sensor transduesor.sorry about the spelling. It also would die sometime when driving but I had the
crank sensor replaced and that's doing fine now. What do you think.

I would check the u-joints,and if you haven't changed the fluid in the transmission I would do that as well and it is a must that only atf+4 be used.

it sounds to me like you have inferior gas in the tank, or some water has gotten in your fuel. you may be able to add a little denatured alcohol to the gas and it may burn off the water. good luck

2001 Jeep grand cherokee motor knock 4.7 motor

First, if the noise is from the upper part of the engine and is more of a tapping than a knock, likely you have a problem in the valvetrain, most often a bad lifter or worn rocker arm. If the noise is low, deep inside, the noise is from a bearing. This is generally accompanied by lower than normal oil pressure. Regardless of the underlying cause, correcting the cause will not stop the knock. To do that correctly, the engine needs to be removed and all crankshaft bearings and the crankshaft itself need to be replaced (crank can sometimes be "undercut" and thicker bearing shells can be used depending upon the amount of wear.) If caught very early, sometimes only one bearing can be replaced in-car, but in 99% of all cases I have ever seen, most will fail again, sometimes more severely if done this way.

96 jeep cheerokee won't idle when cold.

its an oldervehicle and sometimes with age they have to be babied to run right.i dont think theres much you can do to make it start and stay running right off the way it used to other than what youredoing now which is probably sitting in it with your foot on the gas until it warms up if my guess is correct. i have a 1994 suburban that i haveto do the same thing to because its just gotten where it doesnt like cold weather.
