Question about 2004 Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Would the catalytic converter cause jeep to idle low?

Just purchases a 2004 Liberty sport. Has remote start but won't 'stay started' due to very low/rough idling. They are replacing the cat on Friday but would this cause the idle issue?

Not likly but possible. Cat Converters usually only play up after some contamination causes blockage and usually only affects high rev range

Thanks Larry, trying to figure out what to look for specifically. Don't want to end up waiting too long so we have to put our own $$ into it. They are changing the Cat on Friday, the O2 sensor has been changed (I have a feeling that the mechanic knew it is the cat due to the fact that yesterday, he plugged the computer in and basically came out of the jeep saying he was ordering a new one that day). Good thing we are staying on our toes with this!

SOURCE: Replace muffler, not the catalytic converter which started to rattle. Stop running, will crank but will not start. can it be the catalytic converter.

if the converter is rattlin then it needs to be replaced because the element inside is broken. if the jeep still does not run try removing the catalytic converter to see if the restriction is too much. should start if the converter is restricted. if it doesnt maybe its whatever caused the converter to go bad in the first place

SOURCE: Rough idle

Jeep has been having a problem with this. i take it u have a 4.7L or a 3.7L. when the when to fix this problem they should of replaced all the valves (intake and exhaust). theres a tsb on this and the dealer can look it up. even if you paid for the service they will fix it for free cuz it wasn't fixed the first time. take it back to the them and tell the to read the tsb and fix it right.

My 2004 Jeep liberty limited smells very hot on back underside what might this be

I would take a look at your catalytic converter. Sometimes these can get red hot. Often related to oxygen sensor issue. Past that suggestion, I can't help more. Good luck

My rear hatch light indicates that the hatch is open which it is closed tight. Because of this my interior lights stay on and my remote start won't work. How can I fix this? My jeep is the 2009...

The switch on the latch is more then likely stuck. If you can see it spray it with some electrical cleaner and open and shut the hatch a few times.
