SOURCE: don't know how to set timing after replacing fuel pump

replacing the fuel injector pump shoould not have any thing to do with the timing, did you prime the pump before putting it in?

it is critical that you prime the pump...

If you did not, take it back off and prime it then put it back on, it is possible there is air stuck in it...

Hi just a tooth out on the timing will cause problems always check and check again it HAS to be perfect, also if you started this as it was over heating and the pump was ok check radiator and have the cylinder head pressure tested to rule out a head gasket problem, Hope this helps

SOURCE: 1996 gmc safari, 6cyl.-distributor gear broke.replaced.can't time

Roll the engine around until the compression stroke on number one cylinder (both valves are closed) and stop on top dead centre. The rotor should be pointing to the number one terminal on the distributor. If it is not extract the distributor and replace it with the rotor pointing to number one. That should be it. Hopefully their are no other issues relating to the original breakage so you should make sure the new distributor is spinning normally.

I have a 1997 3.8 dodge grand caravan. When i start it up it only runs a short time then shuts off. i replaced the fuel pump but it does the samething. Can it be the crank sensor.

Mike, Did you replace the Fuel pump yourself? I am attempting to replace the fuel pump on my 97 but the big O ring is giving me all kinds of trouble. The instructions were very vague and I cant seem to get it seated right.

Won't start but power is fine

Do you hear a clicking sound when ignition is turned on? If you do then you are loosing contact on your starter, or solenoid, if you don't hear a clicking it could be the solenoid, do you hear the fuel pump priming whenyou turn the ignition on. I would start with making sure the wires to the solenoid and the starter are not corroded, if they are you will have to take them loose, scrape and grease them and try again. Hope this helps you man. Another thing, are the timing belts that your friend replaced timed right, or did they need timed? I don't know on that vehicle.

simple!!!!!! pull the old one out and install the new one reverse of the disasembly. if that is to hard take it to a mechanic. besides that the water pump is on the opposite side of the timeing belt. the timeing belt doesnt cover any of the bolts for the water pump.
