If I understand you correctly your vehicle will still start but bogs down...If this is the case have the catalytic converter checked if it is plugged this would cause the same conditions as you described.....

Check for water in fuel . Take off fuel filter and blow it out onto clean paper and observe what comes out.

How do I remove oil pan on 88 4x4 ranger?

You need to pull the motor, trust me it is an absolute nightmare doing it in the truck and you have to hoist the engine off the mounts anyway.

Where is the ignitor on a 88 ford ranger

Ignitor on a ford ranger 1988 does not exsit.if you are having spark problems you may be talking about the ignition module, i will encolse a picture and also tell you where to locate it. there are many auto part stores that can test your to make sure its bad. good day.there are a few engines that come in this truck, if you have a 2.0 engine then the module is located on the left fender apron. if the truck has a 2.3 or 2.9 engine then the module is located on the base of the distributor.2_19_2012_7_38_41_pm.jpg2_19_2012_7_38_49_pm.jpg

Remove the oil pan, two bolts hold the oil pump on to the engine block, and one nut holds the oil pump strainer on.

1988 Ford Ranger truck, new battery and new

Of coarse it does. The battery was probably okey. The Alternator has nothing to do, with starting a vehicle, but the solenoid on the starter does.
Pull the starter and put on a new solenoid.

Need to know whats the best fuel octane for 88 ford ranger with 2.9 liter v-6 fuel injected engine

Hello!
You can use any brand starting from regular (87) to super or premium (93) depending on your budget. Lower octane gives you usually lower gas milage and can cause problems with engine starting in winter. So for winter time and better gas milage use medium grade.
Good Luck
