If the battery is 3-4 years old then the battery is worn out and may need to be replaced. You can get an auto electrician to test the battery and you charging circuit to determine what is wrong.

Connect your old battery with another battery from another car (WHILE KEEPING ALL CABLES CONNECTED ON BOTH CARS) just user a bridge cable otherwise you'll need. a code to reactivate your BMW again. Try now to start your BMW engine. Now go to the nearest battery dealer to change the battery WHILE KEEPING YOUR ENGINE ON, otherwise you'll need a code to activate your BMW again :)

Good Luck!

SOURCE: my bmw 528I WON'T START AND WON'T JUMP START

Hi Lisa!
This possibly is a immobilizer fault and I would be looking at the Fob/Zapper. The way the immobilizer works is to disable the starter and ignition system.
These fobs have batteries so try replacing them, if you still have the same grief it may need re-coding.
Phone or pop into your local BMW dealer with the Log book/title and ask for their assistance, It shouldn't be expensive unless the vehicle needs to towed/trailered but I'm sure a Girley smile should persuade someone to visit you at home to code the fob to the car.
Hope this FixYa's problem!

Have you tried disconnecting the hot wire from the battery to the starter and cleaning both the connection from battery and on the starter. A toothbrush and water/baking soda?

Why want my 1995 sedan deville cadillac start.

Check for a good/clean connection on your battery terminals. If they have crud on them, disconnect the terminals & clean everything off with a wire brush & if possible, you can use some baking soda or even a Coke to help get the crud off. Rinse everything off & let it dry a bit (check the water level in the battery too - if the cells dry out, that'll kill it). Hook the connections back up good & tight. Then try to start the car - if that's not it. Get a jump, then go to Auto Zone, O'Reilley's, etc and get the battery & the starter checked. I'm betting it's either a poor connection, bad battery or your starter is going out. Start with your connections - that's the easy fix.
Also think about getting the alternator checked (Autozone, O'reilly's or even Pep Boys can do that for free). If the alternator is out or going out, it's not charging your battery - that means everything electrical in your car is now trying to run directly off the battery & draining it (it doesn't take long - especially if the lights or A/C is on). If those check out ok, take it into a mechanic & have them run a diagnostic - you may have a relay out.

I have a 97 528i BMW recently Ive been having problems starting it . When I turn the key it will try to start but wont actually turn over. I have a new battery so Im thinkin its the starter maybe??

It is most likely the immobiliser rather than starter if it does try to start, is it automatic or manual gearbox? If automatic, than try to take the negative cable of the battery and leave for 15-20 minutes without connection, than switch lights on before reconnecting the negative, this resets the computer so it might help. If it is manual, try a push start if the car starts and runs than it is the starter problem, if not than it will be immobiliser problem.
