Question about 2002 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

I need to know the location of the starter motor on a 2002 dodge stratus 2.7. I have changed a lot of starters in my day but they have all been on V8s. Is this something an old shade tree guy can do?

The starter on that vehicle should be on the right front of the car and will probably come out from underneath the car. A good way to obtain a valuable resource that you can keep is to go to an auto parts store and buy a Haynes manual for the particular vehicle. It has illustrations and locations for the components as well a wiring diagrams and troubleshooting techniques. This is what I would recommend to anyone that does not do this for a living and is trying to save money.
If you can not afford to buy the manual (usually around $30), go to the public library and they will have the information you want in reference manuals. The usually charge about 10 cents per page.

2002 dodge stratus 2.7does not start no click noise was working.new batt

Possible starter motor problem. Try tapping the starter motor with something as you turn the key to the crank position. If it starts or makes any noises, suspect a starter. If no help, you will have to check for start power directly at the starter solenoid and diagnose from there

My car wont start, no turn over, all of the electronics work fine. I hear the fuel pump working. What could it be? I parked went in a store, came out and it just wouldn't start.

Possible defective starter motor. Try tapping on starter motor with a blunt object ( if accessible ) while holding the key in the crank position. If the engine starts, the starter motor is bad. If it doesn't, you will have to check for start power at the starter directly. Possible starter motor/starter relay/ wiring/ignition switch etc

Where is starter located?

The starter is located under the exhaust manifold, it's not that difficult to remove if you know what you're doing.
disconnect the catalytic converter, remove the exhaust manifold, remove the engine/ trans. bracket, from there you can remove the starter.

Location of 2.4l 2005 dodge stratus crankshaft sensor

On the Internet there are a lot of different descriptions of where the CRANKSHAFT position sensor is on the 2005 Dodge Stratus sedan 2.4L engine.

HERE IS WHERE I FOUND IT ON MY CAR:
it was on the front of the engine, behind/under the starter motor.

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT IS AT THIS LOCATION ON YOUR CAR:
- One website said that if the 8th number/letter in your car's VIN number is an X then it is located here (this was true for my car).
- To confirm: See if there is a wire (3 wires together actually) leading under the starter motor (see #2 below for a description of the starter motor's location).

THESE ARE THE STEPS I TOOK TO REPLACE IT:
1. Disconnect the positive terminal of the battery. (Turn the wheels all the way to the right, remove/pull back the black plastic cover of the front of the left wheel well, thus exposing the battery, and then unbolt the red positive terminal). You NEED to do this because you'll be working with the starter motor and you don't want to get shocked.
2. Unbolt the starter motor. You can see and access the starter motor from the top. It is situated on the front of the engine block, below the air intake (see the picture). It just has two 15mm bolts on the right side holding it on. You should be able to get a ratchet or wrench to them from the top, or you may even be able to get at them better from below.
3. Lift the starter motor up out of the way. I left all of the wires connected to it, and simply tied it with twine to the plastic air intake above to keep it out of the way.
4. You should be able to clearly see and access the sensor now (see the second picture). It has one bolt, and the plug. *Make sure to put a little oil on the rubber seal of the new sensor before inserting it.
5. Put everything back, in reverse order.

A COUPLE OF THINGS TO NOTE:
- I believe this applies to model years 2003-2006, and to the 2.4L Chrysler Sebring sedan of the same years.
- You probably don't need to jack your car up for this repair. I had my car up on ramps, but in the end I did everything from the top.

The starter is tucked in underneath the front exhaust manifold just about the oil filter. It is held in by two 14mm bolts and easiest accessed from underneath.
