Question about 1994 Ford Thunderbird

4.6L ford thunderbird engine cuts out

My 1994 thunderbird 4.6L cuts out and sometimes dies. when it dies I need to shut off the key before it will start again. it feels like a backfire but the tach drops to zero like the power was just shut off and then rebounds. most of the time the car will remain running and other than the cutting out it seems to run smooth.

Hi,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Check the main vacuum line first...to power brake booster, then to intake manifold, the check all of the plastic tees and connectors...hassle, but anyone can do it.

Loud knock in front of engine

IT could be something as simple as a lose pulley or in a bad case something inside the motor. Really need to get a pro to look at it because anything else would just be a guess.

My 1994 Ford Thunderbird now smokes when I start it - no noises in the engine, but smokes like crazy. Check engine light is one now?

state what color the smoke is. White smoke is antifreeze. Gray smoke is fuel, and black smoke is oil. Also have the computer scanned so you know why the light is on.
