SOURCE: engine stalls at 30mph upon

Hello first of all

well i am sorry a mechanic cant figure this out its really sad. ok so your problem is your either one of two things but most likely the first one i list.

1. camshaft postion sensor
2. crankshaft postion sensor

Now that being said it most likely the camshaft sensor the reason i say that is when a crankshaft postion sensor is bad the car has very hard starts and most of the time no start issues. When a camshaft postion sensor is bad the car cuts off whil driving and can be hard to start up again.

So that being said they are both pretty cheap parts i would go ahead and replace them both and i would bet my 5 years as ford mechanic that solves your issue.

The crank postion sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer pully or right beside it here is a picture from autozone.com and description.

The crankshaft position sensor identifies position of the crankshaft to the ignition control module (ICM), engine control module (ECM) or powertrain control module (PCM).

  • When not replaced, vehicle could experience no- or hard start, long crank time, misfire, lack of power, excessive hydrocarbons in oil, spark plug fouling, catalytic converter failure, poor fuel economy, CEL/MIL illumination or intermittent shutdown.
  • Designed to meet or exceed OE specifications in form, fit and function.
  • Global coverage for import and/or domestic applications.

The crankshaft postion sensor is 22.99 and the cam is 19.99 so 50.00 bucks and about hours time should have you up and running.

PS if this helps please 4 thumbs up it helps me continue to help on here thanks

sounds like it might be flooded. Try and remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse block that is just in front of your left knee. While it is out crank the car and see if it wants to start and hold down the gas pedal all the way and then relase it and back and forth and once you get it to run have the fuse ready in your hand and in front of the spot to install it. and then keep the rpm's up with the gas pedal until the smoke clears out behind the car.

SOURCE: won't start - will crank but won't fire

If the relay is working fine and you checked it the correct way, then there is a blown fuse or a bad connection in the circuit with either the positive side or negative side of the circuit in the harness.

You are at thhe right trail what controls spark is coil pack crank sensor sparkplugs and plug wire but the most important is power . I mean 12 volt connections and ground This includes checking fuses you need a simple volt meter doesnt have to expensive or fancy just to pick up 12 volts let start with fuses in the engine juction box (there not mark to what it belongs to) make sure none are open. especially fuse 19 and 24 , next go to the crank sensor make sure the tabs are snuggly on now to the coil pack there is a red and light green wire this comes from ignition and feeds 12 volts at the coil pack measure that voltage is it 12 volts if not correct it this is from ignition switch ( you can make a tool that feed 12 volt with a wire and a fuse in series and attatch it to battery and the primary wire this is known as hot wire) next go to the ECM wiggle the wires see if that get a connection going if not go back to the ICM here are the wire you are to measure the tan light green, this is from ECM and it is pulsed it measure 5vlts to 0 volts switched then measure the tan orange the same thing 5 volts to zero, then tan white again 5vlts to zero. any one of these 5 to zero fails you fix is the ecm

i would check and see if spark pluges are firing. you can take one out and plug into spark plug wire then let the bottom of the plug sit on engine and get someone to try to start while you look at the plug to see if there is any fire. if you have no fire or fuel it would be the crankshaft sencer. it could be the timing belt but the motor would sound different turning over then it used to.

My 1996 ford taurus sho wont start, it will turn over but not start what could be wrong?

    Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that there's no current flowing that's why it won't fire up. I strongly suggest that you check and replace the coil pack if necessary. If the coil pack is faulty there will be no current to the plugs. One good reason why it won't fire up.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.
