Look closely at the cover. You will see a small slot. Insert a small flat blade screwdriver, and pry it off. Very easy..

These codes are all for the Evaporative Emissions System.

P0440- Evaporative emissions system fault- just saying there's something wrong with the system.

P0441- Evaporative emissions system- Incorrect purge flow- saying that the system isn't purging the raw fuel vapors (hydrocarbons- HC) as well as it should.

P0446- Evaporative emissions system- Control valve circuit low- there is a valve, usually located on the charcoal canister at the rear of the vehicle, that opens to allow fresh air to enter the evaporative emissions system as the engine vacuum purges the fuel vapors from the charcoal canister and closes when purge is not needed to prevent leakage of those fuel vapors to the atmosphere (HC is a greenhouse gas and is regulated as such by the fed gov't).

Given that you have the incorrect purge flow code and the control valve code together, my bet is that the vent control valve has failed (causing the P0446) and is not opening to allow fresh air into the system to displace the air from within the system that is being pulled to the engine. Since you have no fresh air entering the system, the engine will pull a vacuum on the system instead of the vapors "flowing" into the engine (causing the P0441).

I hope that this is helpful to you!!!

There is a pin that you have to push in on the bottom of the lock cylinder housing.It is recessed in a hole.You have to turn the key to acc or on to get it to push in.Once you push it in you can pull the key and lock cylinder out.

In the solution for the po440 code on the 2001 toyota camry ce, what's a filler cap?

The filler cap is the GAS CAP. This code will come on if you forgot to tighten ( or drove around with it hanging) your gas cap after filling up the gas tank. If this is the case then all you have to do is tighten the gas cap until 3 clicks are heard. The code will reset itself after several days of driving. If the code does not reset then you may have a defective gas cap or another leak in the fuel emission system.

99% of the time the code is caused by a gas cap that was not tightened properly.

Hi. I am using this service for the first time. I saw my mechanic today and he told me my car (a 2001 Toyota Camry) has an emissions problem -an evaporator leak. Is this a common problem with this...

The P0440 code is the evaporative emission system. I'm not sure if that is a common problem specifically with your vehicle. Usually the evap system is not extremely expensive to fix. Two things you can do: take the vehicle to Autozone(or another parts store) and make use of their free engine diagnosis. They can print you off your codes most likely causes and fixes. Also make sure your gas cap is tight, a loose gas cap or worn out seal will sometimes be the cause of an evap system code being thrown.

1998 toyota camry V6

P0420 indicates you have a catalyst efficiency issue; replacement of the Air-Fuel Sensor should take care of that;
The P0441, P0446 and (I assume P0440); you said 446 twice, indicates a faulty or loose fuel cap; it is not sealing properly.
Please feel free to respond to me if you have any further questions.
A FixYa rating from you regarding my assistance would be greatly appreciated.
