How much is my 1989 wrangler worth with blown engine?

Sounds like a new or junk yard engine to me. Rarely does a water pump explode, will usually take out the radiator also. Sounds like a rod went threw the engine.

Could you be hearing valve knock. Did you check valve clearance?

my 1989 jeep wrangler would not idle and come to find out it was a little filter cloth inside the fuel tank that was on the end of the pickup tube going to the fuel filter. It was clogged up and when the engine was started it would just suck in and cut off fuel flow. My mechanic removed the filter cloth from the tube and the jeep runs great. It really does not need to be there because the fuel line has a filter on it. I hope this helps , I know for me it was very frustrating trying to figure this problem out.

Have you checked the firing order to make sure the plug wires are in correct order. Sometimes an engine will run but rough if 2 wires are mixed but it could be that there's more than 2 mixed up.

I would check the fuel pressure regulator. Sounds like it's getting WAY TOO MUCH GAS!! Also check the plugs to see if they are fouled.

A top fuel engine isn't your backyard "hot rod" (block alone is worth more than three of whatever you are driving)
And, I ran several shops that all boasted a less than 2% "come-back" rate with regards to not having fixed the problem the first time. (try and find a shop that can say that)

do a compression test on the engine this will tell you if the hrad needs to be removed to see if the head gasket is blown, or the head is warped or a piston has a hole in it

Bring the vin code to a dealer and they can tell you. The .2 dosen't mean much unless you are changing pistons or connecting rods.

just cleaned top half of carb, the venturi was dripping raw gas into the carb, running rich and stalling.

cleaned bowl and compressed air blow out parts and runs better now.

but know introduced new problme where it runs rough when you give it gas, not reving upp. now.....
