When putting timing belt back on the mark then crank motor twice the belt goes off the mark the other way

I have jusy replaced the head gaskets on the motor but i cant seem to get in back in time ive tried to turn the disturbitor but its like it backfires what is the standard time line for this motor.

I'm attempting to do a timing belt change on my 2004 Chevy Aveo. The problem is when I took off the old timing belt I forgot to loosen the tension using the water pump. When I tried to install the new...


Yes,there is a special wrench that fits the water pump. You have to loosen bolts on pump and put wrench on pump and turn pump to get belt on. Then tighten pump till marks line up on tensioner,then tighten the pump back down. Be sure to roll the engine around twice and recheck timing marks on crank and cams.

line up the marks on crank shaft gear arrow to arrow, the front cam gear the mark goes to the middle on the rear cam gear the mark goes one notch below front gear mark they line up when the tension is put on belt.

you need to pull the timing back apart pull the number one spark plug and role the motor over by hand to top dead center on the compression stroke the the mark for the crank should be lined up or almost lined up line it up perfect on its mark then set the cam to its mark install belt role over by hand 2to4 full rotation marks should line up perfect . install crank pulley fire it up for a split second shut it off and put it all back together

Not sure but if doing belt yourself I will give you important tips. 1) before removeing T/Belt set engine to TDC nr 1 there should be marks on the crank and cam (s) gears that line up with a mark on the block / head. 2) prior to removeing tension to belt get liquid paper & mark cam gear(s) & crank gear to point on block / head. 3) mark T/Belt to cam(s), crank, balance shaft if fitted. 4) release tension & remove belt. 5) transcribe marks from old belt to new belt & make sure correct amount of teeth. 6) fit new belt so YOUR marks line up. 7) have tensioner suply presure to belt. 8) turn motor twice by hand to make sure pistons no hit valves 9) Make sure YOUR marks line up if YOUR marks line up it has to be right. 10) Very IMPORTANT if spring tensioner lossen locking bolt again to take up extra slack in belt. 11) tighten locking bolt. 12) put back together.

How to locate camshaft and crankshaft sensor on a 2.7 motor of a hyndaui sonata 2005


Not a do-it-yourself job, unless you got some time and are pretty confident.

You'll have to dismount the engine from the motor mount on the passenger side. (17mm bolts and nuts)

You'll have to move the power steering lines out of your way.

Remove the crankshaft pulley. (21mm or 22mm Bolt, and some 10mm bolts)

Remove the timing covers (10mm bolts)

Place the engine on TDC for cylinder 1. There are timing marks on the crank you can use. (make sure the ones on the camshafts are on the timing marks as well

Remove the timing belt tensioner

Remove the timing belt

Remove the metal blade and crankshaft position sensor from next to the crankshaft (10mm bolts for the sensor, metal blade just slides over the crankshaft) Replace both of them.

Now, make sure you index the crank pulley correctly, make sure you get the cams and the crank on the timing marks before you put the belt back on. Make sure you rotate the engine by hand for 2 turns of the crank shaft and ensure that the crank and the cams are still on the timing marks.

Put it all back together.

That is a very quick overview of the highlights of the job.

Faulty timing belt on a 1993 toyota 4X4 hilux with a 2.8D motor.


Ready? Remove all the stuff in the way of the old belt. Radiator, pulleys, belts, covers, have a new tensioner to put on? How about that water pump? Get a socket big enough for the crank pulley bolt, you just want to turn the engine over a little. Get the new belt with marks on it, they come in real handy, and when you are ready to let the old one go, bring the motor around to tdc. There is a mark on the crank pulley, when that aligns, the cams should be on their marks as well, clamp the cams from moving, they are under spring tension, they won't go far, but just in case, remove the belt, line up the new one with the marks on it to the marks on the cams and the crank, pull the pin on the tensioner, and you should be all set. Put it all back together, fill the radiator back up. Hope this helps.

Need to replace the timing belt on a mitsubishi mirage de 2000, so we need timing help, etc. Also is it worth it to do it yourself? not too hard if you know cars?


If you know nuts and bolts its pretty easy. Just strip down the motor to the timing case. The harmonic balancer is always run off the crank, so that is the best way to determine where to go.

The only special tools you should need is a harmoninc balancer puller. Cost about $50-$100, but some auto parts store will rent it to you for free with a deposit to insure it's return.

Timing marks on most vehicals these days are right on the crank and motor. The two triangles should point right at each other. On the cam the timing mark is a little notch on the gear, this should line up with the little notch on the timing case. Remember that the crank turns twice to each cam turn, so when you put the new belt on, turn over the motor to insure correct timing and crank placement.

remove drivers wheel then plastic wheel arch then put jack under engine and remove the engine mount then take off fan belt and timing belt cover mark your two top cam pullys and the crank pully then remove your belt and tensioner put new belt and tensioner on making sure all your marks line up then put on the crank pully and turn engine over twice by hand using a ratchett on the crank pully bolt if it turns over and your marks still line up put it all back together and start the car

How to replace timing belt on 1997 kia sportage


you have 2 sprokets to worry about the top two and crank gear, the crank gear has knocht on it and index on block ( towards back of gear visible from top) place on tdc mark ( top dead center), install the timing belt on this gear first then secure it with a piece of hose or anything that fits in between housing and belt to secure belt from moving from gear) then align the right side sproket on "E" for exhaust cam at top marks on cover and sprocket, then install belt over that sprocket, finally align left side sprocket "I" for intake to the top mark and install belt not too tight or it will make noise just make sure it is firm. now to double check from left to right with you standing in front of vehicle you should have left cam sprocket with "I" for intake to the top and right sproket with "E" for exhaust to the top. having bottom gear on tdc (top dead center mark) and all marks lined up with belt installed and proper tension secured, turn engine over twice and make sure marks meet in the same place then put everything back together. ( recommend you replace both idler and tension pulleys and check water pump, replace if needed or you'll be back.- this procedure goes the same to spectra, sephia, sportage, you will not damage the engine on these vehicles if belt goes out except rio. if timing belt goes out on the rio it will need an engine, if lucky just head. recommended replacement on all is every 60k miles) goo luck tightening the power steering drive belt when you put everything back together, just use a long bar to pry and good leverage. and a second hand comes in handy.
