Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

1 Answer

I have a 1999 silverado with a 4.8l with about 190,000 miles on it, two weeks ago i noticed my engine oil pressure would drop to 0 and almost stall till i gave it gas then it would go up to about 45ps. i went and changed the oil pressure sensor and it worked great until yesterday morning when i went to warm it up. when i started it, it shot up to about 45 -50 ps then dropped right down to zero and engine would almost cut out untill i gave it gas and idled it for about 30 secounds and then it would stay around 45ps. does knock at start but when engine warms up knocking goes away and oil pressure is fine. what could cause this to happen?

SOURCE: oil pressure drops to 0 at idle

OOO not good sounds like some of the head gasket got stuck somewhere, or the gauge or sender is bad or got knocked around when repairing the head gasket. I would check that first. If that checks out will need to drop the pan to see if something got stuck in the pickup tube, might as well change the pump while you are there. Or worst case some thing wrong with gasket job impeading oil flow back to bottom of the engine. Was the oil and filter changed ?if so pull out filter and see if an chunks are stuck in it now. And change oil and filter again. Sorry that was out of order I had a long day

When i first start my truck it takes 45 seconds before my oil pressure gauge ever moves

First do an oil and oilfilter change, if that doesn't solve the problem check the oil pump and oil press valve. Your engine are running out off oil and you could damage the bearings.

On my 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer 190,000 miles the engine stalls periodically

Please keep check on the coolant level, in morning on first start when radiator is still cold open the radiator cap and rev the engine. Notice if there are bubbles and oil drops. I am suspecting head gasket leakage.

1999 Chevy Silverrado, 5.3 Z71. Stalling out when warmed up going up hill. Took it to Chevy certified repair man said it was Catalist converters. Had those repaced, drove it for a week then same stalling...

Did you notice if you where low on gas either or both times this happened? I wonder if it's not a fuel pressure problem? Other wise might give it a tune up air filter, plugs, fuel filter. I've also noticed that chevy's are always happier with a fresh oil change.

Oil pressure on a 2004 5.3 liter silverado at idle is around 20

The pressure to be most concerned with is the reading in gear at idle with engine warmed up...Low end really should not be below 20. If pressure wanders, change the sending unit and check actual pressure with a mechanical gauge if necessary. The age and quality of your oil, as well as temperature all play a part in pressure, as well as internal wear from time & miles of use. If pressure changes with rpm, that is normal. 40psi is good while driving.
need more info just ask.

Changed oil pressure switch, still no oil pressure

The fuel pump on that model runs through the oil pressure switch so that if the truck looses oil pressure,It kills power to the fuel pump to prevent engine damage.you need to find the cause of the low oil pressure reading(possibly a bad oil switch). That would be the cheapest place to start,or have it checked with a mechanical gauge.Good luck,

Fluctuating oil pressure on 92 Mercedes 300CE

Either the sending unit,(this unit is on the motor)is malfunctioning, or your engine oil pump may not be providing enough pressure.
This could be due to sticky oil pressure bypass valve,,worn out pump,,or worn engine main bearings.
If it is just a case of worn engine oil bearings, this is usually indicated by high oil pressure when cold,,but low oil pressure when hot,.i wouldn't worry to much, since most engines suffer from this same complaint and doesn't harm the engine any.
