I found out from Qualified Mechanics that cleaning it first is alot better as a first choice than spending $300 to replace it. If you can fix it don't replace it!!!!

  • Anonymous Nov 30, 2012

What is your point ? I said clean it two days ago Don't cost $300

  • Russell Roebuck Nov 30, 2012

It wasn't against you Mr Zapp and replace It might have been from another site. Thank you, I should have taken your advise. I just didn't know the right way to clean it so I've done alot of researching. Some say use throttle/carb cleaner, others say use CRC MAF cleaner and that seems the best. I hope I didn't offend you because you were right on the money. I just wanted to know the procedure and proper way to do it. The car is stressing me and my wallet out to the MAX.

Peter Zapp, I just went over your solution from the 27th D--- your had it all along and I missed it. CRC instructions on the can. Thanks, Sorry I missed it

Peter Zapp, Did you see Jonah Oneal\'s response. He say\'s to replace it there is no way to clean it. I\'m with you and I\'ll buy CRC Monday and take your advise and clean the thing before buying a new part. Replacing as Jonah said is the rich mans way. I\'ll go with your idea . I\'m poor.

  • Anonymous Dec 01, 2012

Jonah meant that cleaning while something you do at least once a year the sensors wires are very sensitive & cleaning is hard to do & only proper testing will tell you if the sensor is working correctly. BUT I'm with you they are not cheap & you don't throw parts at a problem

  • Jonah Oneal Dec 01, 2012

How do I disconnect the sensor from the assembly. Do I remove the whole assembly? I know the Platinum pins on the sensor are delicate. And what inside the assembly should I clean? I heard the wires insidethe assembly needs some cleaning but shouldn't be touched, maybe sprayed and left to dry. Any Truth? Thanks for a reply

Two places to start. First clean the throttle body/carb. Brake clean and a tooth brush. Clean inside as best and deep as you can, clean the back of the throttle plate and were it seats the most. It will take a few seconds, start the car up and spray the cleaner in the throttle as you rev it up. Then after that, I would replace the engine coolant sensor.

How do I repair my 2004 Monte Carlo as supercharged kicking out codes p102 and p171

you can try this:

Verify that the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires.

Inspect for any air leaks near the MAF sensor.

Take the MAF out and clean it using a spray cleaner such as brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner. Be gentle with the sensor.

Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information)

Replace the MAF sensor.

My rpm is going crazy

Either the gauge is defective, the sensor at the distributor, or the computer module.

Could be a loose wire any where in the chain between the sensor and the gauge.
