I had a similar nagging problem once, though I do not recall the dashlights being involved. For me, the lines from the brakes went up the steering column to the turn signal. I pulled the wheel and inspected all the connections, and just like that everything worked again. I believe I could have tugged on the wiring harness without pulling hte wheel and obtained the same results.

My 1996 Brake light clip needed to spread open with a screw driver(some what like a round spring) and with another screw driver push the switch up the pin. The switch will push the clip off the Pin. The pin has a head that needs to clear clip while the spring clip is spread open. It took me a while to figure out.

I would check the brake fluid level first. If that is ok and you have more than 100K on the brakes check to see if they need to be replaced.

Either the door switch, console light switch (if it can turn /on/off these lights) fuse, relay and its source of power. If the interior lights on ceiling have an on/off switch check this out to. B+ must be present at these lights when doors are open or switches are closedaka on position. I would check for B+ leaving the relay after each one of the controls are activated seperately. Remember the relay and fuse are common to all the controls.
