Flywheel ring gear missing some teeth; must it be replaced, or can I just move car in gear each time?

I would get it replaced, after all, what if it failes somewhere really inconvenient? If you are planning on keeping the car long term just get it fixed. Also keep in mind that the flywheel is now not balanced and could cause vibration and possible damage.

Lost my marks on flywheel when i take it off

Flywheels are either doweled in place or the bolt holes are not symmetrical. That means that of all the holes one will not line up properly to allow you to insert the bolt. Keep turning the flywheel on the crank until all the bolts go all the way in finger tight . If you have one that is a bit tight start again turning one hole at a time .until you achieve them all finger tight.

How do i check for the timing marks on the automatic flywheel for the vw passat v6 amx engine

Hi. The amx does not ahve a flywheel pick up. the crank sensor g28 is on the side of the block. The flywheel have offset bolts so can only be fitted in the correct position. The best way to set tdc is with a special tool that goes into the side of the block at g28 sensors hole, or to set tdc with a dial gauge on cylinder 1. I don't yhink the flywheel fitment is the issue with this vehicle. Have you disconnected the air mass meter and run the car to see if it is beter? The air mass meter commonly fails when disturbed during repairs.

Starter works fine but won't crank engine. the pick up has to be given a push first before it starts

If the starter is spinning when you try to start but doesn't spin the engine over then you most likely have teeth missing off the flywheel ring gear. The facts that you say you have to push it and then it starts means the flywheel position changes and the starter has good teeth on the flywheel to engage. To confirm this next time the engine won't crank over remove the starter and look inside at the flywheel for missing flywheel teeth.

Starter makes a screeching noise sometimes just after the motor starts

Replace the starter before it ruins the flywheel. You have a worn out drive that applies to the flywheel. Flywheels are very very hard to change, in fact you can change 10 or 15 starters in the same time changing one flywheel

We have 1996 Yukon. We have replaced the flywheel three times and also changed starters to see if that was the problem. We have looked at the starter/flywheel teeth mesh and noticed that the starter teeth...

it sounds like you have the wrong starter or flywheel on the truck. aif the transmission has ever been changed, it may have been changed with the wrong size. the bolts line up fine to fit the engine, but the flywheel is too small or the tooth size is off

Have whoever is changing the flywheels check the crankshaft for "end play"...If the crankshaft thrust bearings are worn, it will allow the shaft to "walk" , or shift back & forth in the block. This action will def damage flywheels over time.
