Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, missing or the cooling system is low on fluid. Cold check: remove radiator cap and check for coolant (never do this with a hot engine), fill if needed right up to near-cap level with water, start engine and watch for fluid flow, there should be no flow on startup, if there is water flow on startup the thermostat is suspect. The thermostat is responsible for maintaining the operating temp of the engine, if it is missing or stuck open it will never reach operating temp and there will be no heat. If there is no coolant in the radiator you have a leak to fix somewhere that should be obvious when you add water, if there is no leaks but it was low on water, drain the water you added to test it and refill with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water(available as a premix) and follow manufacturers recommendations for bleeding the air from the system, and amount of coolant need to fill it, there may be plugs that need to removed in various locations to allow air to escape when refilling. The library usually has general repair manuals available or invest in one for yourself and save a bunch of grief later on. Good luck!

My 97, 5.2 runs 200 without AC, if I turn on AC, it goes to 220. Replaced clutch fan, thermostat, water pump, and new cap. Backflushed block and radiator. No results. Why so hot? Only 92K on unit.

dodges run like that. if your worried put a 180 degree thermostat in. maybe even a 160 . wont hurt engine or fuel mileage . my 99 dodge ram 1500 sport runs fine with 160 degree one. hope it helped , good luck

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 will not get hotter than 160 degrees. I changed the thermostat and the coolant level is fine. What else could it be?

Now thats interesting.
I assume you are using the gauge on the dash to judge the engine temp, but you also said before you have no heat. The gauge could be off, but you would know by the radiator hoses if the engine is warming up or not.
Assuming the new thermostat is not defective, the coolant would have to be bypassing it somehow.
I would want to make sure there is no air pockets in the cooling system, and see if both radiator hoses are cool.

2003 1500 ram, floor heat and vent heat works, wont go to defrost

Hello, Look underneath dash on passenger side of your transmission hump. The simple fix would be a broken or de-tached cable(wire). You might be able to move it by hand. The more complex solution involves (professional service)removing a substantial part of the dash to get to the internal baffle.
