I have a 2003 GMC Sierra that was heating fine one day then not the next. I cut both hoses to the heater core and ran water from a garden hose through the outlet hose from the heater. It cleared it up immediately and now I have plenty of heat! iI used hose connectors and hose clamps from O'Reilly's to put the hoses back together.

Do you have heat when you rev it up? You could have a blocked/clogged heater core. Try back flushing the heater core in both directions to try and clear any deposits. Also if there has been any kind of stop leak added it can clog heater cores right up. Also verify that temp blend door stays in proper position.

No heat and both the radiator and thermostat are new.

There are a couple of possibilities....

1. The heater core has been bypassed. If the core was leaking someone may have looped the heater hose back on itself. Check to ensure that the supply and return heater hoses are in place and properly routed to the firewall.

2. The heater core may be clogged. Age does a lot as does old coolant to clog up a heater core. To check the core disconnect the heater hoses at the block. Blow through one hose and see if you can get coolant/air to pass through the core. You can raise one hose higher than the other and pour water through or use low-pressure air as well. If the core is clogged, it may be possible to unclog it using a diluted drain cleaner. Pour the diluted cleaner into both hoses and let sit for a time, then flush with clear water. This may take several attempts. If it works it will save much time and expense. The unfortunate downside is that there is also the possibility of generating a core leak this way. But considering that if you hadn't tried you would have to replace the core anyway, you have nothing really to lose.

3. The blend door in the heater control box may be stuck and not letting air pass thru the core to heat the cabin. This one is hardder to verify.

2002 nissan altima heater problem

have 2002 altima, blower works no heat at idle and very little heat when accelerating.I changed carbon cabin filter, made sure little gear under dash to temp knob wasnt broken, flushed and bled system.Nothing worked so checked hoses to heater core and found inlet hose was hot, outlet hose was not.So investigated this problem and came to conclusion heater core was clogged. An easy way to check is to get car to normal running temp. put on heater and blowers at full.Go under dash on passenger side where counsel meets firewall, this is where heater core core inlet and outlet aluminum tubbing go through firewall, you will be able to feel both tubes one closest to you is outlet, so if this one is not hot and and other is your heater core is clogged.I detached both inlet and outlet hoses to heater core from water control valve. Then I blasted water with waterhose and nozzle set at jet, first through outlet hose to blow gunk out, then through inlet hose until water runs clear.Reatach hoses fill and bled system.heater works great nice and hot!

Leaking antifreeze between firewall and motor on passenger side. just started when i tried to use the heater. could it be the heater core and where is it located

Could be the heater core, or where your heater hoses connect at the firewall. Heater core leak would more than likely put steam in the vents of you car when heater is on and hot and fan on. If the leak is just in the engine compartment, it`s a hose or a loose connection.

2001 rx300 no heat from heater

If your vehicle is not leaking or overheating(coolant level is fine) and there is no smell or fluid in the floor board, then the heater core is not leaking(most likely) but it still maybe clogged. Find the heater core lines, they run from tthe engine into the firewall, with the vehicle running and at operating temperature feel of both hoses, they should be warm to hot, if one is and the other isn't then you have a clogged heater core. If this is the case turn off the vehicle and let it cool down then pull the two hoses check to make sure there is no blockage in the hoses then use a hose and flush it through the heater core and see if anything comes out, this should clear out the heater core. If water will not come out of the other side of the heater core it is definitely clogged try flushing through the other way, if water still wont pass through you may need to pull the heater core from behind the dash and try to clean it or replace it. This is where I would begin.

2000 Linc ls v8 auto question james from ILL.

maybe you won't need to. On the fire wall you will see 2 hoses an inlet and an outlet.that go directly into the heater core. Sometimes the heater core is clogged. disconnect the hoses and use a water hose running at only a moderate flow. put it into one of the the inlet of the heater core and run water until you see clear coolant. Then do it on the outlet and run it until the coolant is clear. you are trying to remove any clogs the heater may have. if this does not work, check the heater control valve.move the temperature slider the one to control the temp inside the car. and see if you can hear anything move. Check to see what type it is it can be a vacuum controled vavle, or a cable hooked on to the valve or an electronic controled valve. if it is a vacuum controled valve, you can check to see if a vacuume hose is disconnected, if it is a cable type valve, check it by moving the temperature control inside the car open it and close it with your fingers if you can see it. But most likely it may be the heater core thats clogged.
