Fluctuating idle problem 1.4 utility 2007

Driving a manual transmission is a task that takes some training, but can be accomplished by pretty much anyone who puts their mind to it. Driving a manual transmission smoothly, especially one in a truck or other large vehicle, takes some knowledge and finesse. Larger vehicles, with a manual transmission are more difficult to drive smoothly because of the larger engine, more rigid transmission, and heavy flywheel, but anyone can learn to drive any manual transmission vehicle with enough training and practice.

Chasing a workshop manual for this vehicle or info on similar later vehicle so that I can see what the chassis looked like

if it is a sedan there will be no chassis as it will be a mono construction
If it is a small truck (utility) then any mazda vehicle about that year will have much the same chassis construction
the name varies country to country but the basics will be the same.

Can you use a better oil in a 1994 ford 250 5 speed manual than atf?

Not sure what you mean by "better oil" but I'll tell you this... The M50D transmission is designed to use ATF. If you're using a stadard Type F fluid then yes, there is a better oil. It's Mercon V ATF. I believe this tranny takes 3 qts.
I hope this helps!

I have an 89 Ford F150 that is stuck in fourth gear. How do i get it out of gear?

Have you checked the fluid level. It is a common problem on the M50D manual transmission to run out of fluid and seize the input shaft and the mainshaft together. This causes it to be stuck in 4th. If this has happened you will need to replace or rebuild the transmission.

What should the RPM's be @ 60MPH on a 2001

The RPM is a display indicator of vehicle performance in relation to fast moving capabilities.
A vehicle that requires so much RPM has functions explanable

1. multi purpose vehicles like sports utility require more RPM considering the functionality in relation to performance. for example, a sports utility vehicle requiring tow capabilities would be greatly reduced without high RPM considering that builting an engine and structure so rigid would be disproportionate with RPM. The sports utility vehicle for example has multi purposes requiring features the contribute towards achiev ing each additional functionity. The RPM provides the appropaie measure of propertionality in the functionality and especially for an operational guideline.

2. 60 RPM has been the standard for several vehicles of similar capacity and would be drastic measure to increase without any additional vehicle upgrades to complement the entire functionity of vehicle.

I lost my owner's manual, and I need to know the capacity of the manual transmission! Also, I was told to use MERCON 5, is that right?

well there are a few different transmissions they put in this truck.
Borg-Warner T-18 4speed takes SAE 80W
Ford S5-42 ZF 5 speed take Mercon 5
Mazda M50D 5 speed with overdrive takes Mercon 5
Mtsubishi FM132, FM146 5 speed with overdrive takes SAE 80W
It looks like they all take between 3 and 4 litres. You may have to call the dealership with the vin number to find out which transmission is in it but you could also just pull the drain plug out just a little bit and if the fluid is red then its mercon 5, if its brown and really thick fluid then its SAE 80W

How to change transmission oil on a 1993 ford f250 diesel 5 speed?

Fluid - M/T: Fluid Type Specifications
The manual transmission models M50D; Borg-Warner T-18 and ZF model S5-42 each use Motorcraft MERCON© Multi-Purpose Automatic
Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX or DDX (ESP-M2C166-H) or equivalent.

There should be a drain plug near the bottom of the transmission, the plug should be removed by inserting a 3/8" ratchet in the hole on the plug. Drain the oil.

There should be a similar plug higher on the transmission case, remove this and fill from there.
