Chevrolet malibu humming coming from transmission

When i am driving and hit 2000 rpm, i get a humming/buzzing noise from right where the transmission is. this goes away after i pass 2000. I am not sure if it is the actual transmission or maybe just something near it. it does not occur when i am in first gear, but it does in second and above.

SOURCE: while driving truck makes a humming sound in drive now no reverse

If you have no reverse then yes it needs to be rebuilt. as far as the whining it could be in one of the differentials. or in trans? just depends on where you hear it

SOURCE: Runs rough at low rpms. Misfires but goes away at about 2000 rpm.

Sounds to me like it could be a Mass Airflow Sensor issue. Or Air fuel mixture problem. Is the harness to the MAF and Trottle control sensors hooked up right? These are just simple solutions that may work. Check all of your fuses as well. One could be blown causeing you DLC not to operate. DLC =DATA LINK CONNECTOR. Find the fuse... read the code.... solve them problem! GOOD LUCK! hope this helps.

SOURCE: Transmission Slipping?

Putting it in four wheel drive does not eliminate the transmission. Honestly, it sounds like the transmission is on it's way out. A 4l60e in one of cars was acting the same way. It required a rebuild.

I would check the wheel bearings and CV axles first. If they are good. The rear planet in the transmission is going out. Rebuild or replace.

check your cerpatine belt,it will make a noise when it is slipping and won't let the engine idle right or run at correct rpm which throws off transmission shifting

2004 Chevrolet Malibu front end hum

I think your right that its a bad bearing or hub. If your feeling it in the gas pedal and the floor, its most likely the front. If you can find an empty parking lot, try to get up to the speed it starts making the noise, and turn left and right. With the extra load being put on each bearing from turning, that will tell you which side it is.

Could be a transmission issue. Did you hit any objects while driving ? Have you performed a visual inspection under your vehicle ? Have you checked to see if you have any loose vacuum hoses ? Any codes in your engine control module or transmission control module ?
