DTC'S KEEP COMING BACK!!WHY?

I WAS WONDERING IF THIS MAY BE COMMON ON THIS VEHICLE, MY FRIEND HAS AREADY REPLACED THE AIR INTAKE TEMP SENSOR AND THE INTAKE BOOT ( torn) FOR DTC P0111.AND HAS ALSO REPLACED THE PURGE VALVE FOR DTC P0443. AND HAS REPLACED THE PCM FOR THE DTC P0134. AND THE CODES STILL KEEP COMING BACK. I TOLD HIM FOR THE PURGE VALVE HE NEEDED TO GET A SMOKE MACHINE TO FIND THE LEAK! BUT AS FOR THE REST OF THEM I'M NOT TO SURE OF.

    replaced o2 sensors and took care of p0134! wish i had a smoke machine for an EVAP leak test.Any one out there knows the common thing that goes out on this things? i still have 2 codes left. p0111 and p0443

    Went ahead and replace the M.A.F sensor and clear the codes, C.E.L comes on as soon as i start the engine!!! all wires and hoses are fine no leaks detected. PCM? could use a little guidens.,

    What I'm going to tell you is not what you chose to do Have the codes read by professional scan tool software so you get enhanced codes not just generic. Then use factory manuals & their trouble chart to as they say properly diagnose I'm getting confused as to is doing what & why I hope you realize that codes do not tell you what is wrong & replacing parts in your case has to stop

Your friend is on a fishing trip

If you have no factory diagnostic manuals &
trouble charts to follow you don't know the system
you trying to fix

If you have a smoke machine it would be good to get some
practice with it for an Evap issue & codes

What is happening is that person does not know that codes
do not tell you what is wrong or what to replace,you have to
component test for that

A code is just a sensor reporting a fault,not always a failed
sensor

You have to find out why the fault occurred & do not always
need a part replaced

leaky fuel injectors or a bad fuel pressure regulator could be the cause. check the fuel pressure. should be 3.0 to 3.5 bar.

SOURCE: white smoke from My BMW 735I 2002 model automatic, what is the problem

I don't know much about BMW's, but white smoke...not blue...coming from the exhaust pipe...particularly once its warmed up...sounds like you've got a head gasket going out. A normal operating engine, expands and contracts a fair amount as it reaches standard operating temperature. A warn gasket may no longer expand well enough to fill the void or contract enough when cooled to continue doing its job correctly. If the smoke had a blue tint to it, I would then suspect valve seals allowing oil to seep into the cylinders. Sorry for the bad news, but I do hope this helps in some way. Best of luck!

SOURCE: p1188 and p0170 on bmw z3 roadster

p1188 is fuel pump and p0170 is same problem but with air flow sounds like drawing in too much air and not much fuel. pump might be shot.

all of those codes listed have a common fault listed and that is the ECM
substitute it with a known good unit and then see what happens

On a cold start i have no high idle for warm up


coolant temp sensor and intake air temp sensor would be the next to check.intake air temp sensor is in the air intake tunnel between TB air air box. when running is there a DTC? by disconnecting the coolant temp sensor you put the ecm values at default try that if it corrects your issue replace it.(it will turn your check engine light on but you can clear later by disconnecting battery)

Hi there:

P0052 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit High (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
A P0052 DTC (diagnostic trouble code) refers to the O2 sensor (oxygen sensor) located on Bank 2 in front of the catalytic converter. There is also an oxygen sensor behind the converter which is Sensor #2. Bank 2 is the side of the engine that doesn't contain cylinder #1.



This O2 sensor #1 may also be refered to as an air/fuel ratio sensor since on some vehicles it is. The sensor detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air and then vehicle's computer adjusts the air/fuel ratio going into the engine. The sensor is less effective when the exhaust gas temperature is low, so it includes a heater which is activated to help get better readings from the O2 sensor. Essentially this P0052 code means that the resistance of the heater circuit is higher than normal. In some cases, that resistance level must be higher than 10 A to trigger the DTC code.


Note: this code is very similar in nature to P0031, P0032, and P0051


Most likely you'll not notice any symptoms other than the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) will illuminate.



Causes: a P0052 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
A short in the heater circuit in the sensor
A failed O2 sensor heater
Wiring/connectors broken/frayed leading to sensor and/or relay
Failed PCM/ECM


Possible Solutions: To fix a P0052 DTC code, you'll need to do a proper diagnosis. To do that, you'll want to inspect the wiring and connectors leading to the sensor. Also if equipped with a heater relay and fuse, you'll want to check those as well. Use a digital volt ohm meter to:


check for 12 volts at the heater circuit feed (hint: unplug the sensor and check at the wiring connector to do this measurement)
check the ground circuit for continuity
measure the resistance of the heater circuit (done on the sensor itself)
measure the resistance and voltage of the wiring
Refer to a service manual for the correct specifications (volts, ohms) for your vehicle. On some Toyota vehicles this code is triggered when the resistance of the heater circuit is above 10 A.


With that said, a common fix for this DTC is to replace the air/fuel (O2 oxygen) sensor #2 on bank 1.


Please keep in mind that OEM (original equipment) replacement sensors are recommended (from the dealer). Aftermarket sensors can be less reliable and of poorer quality (not always, but more often). There's also a chance that replacement parts for the P0052 code may also fall under a federal emissions warranty (check with your dealer to see if it's covered).

DTC Code P0107


P0107 -- CONTINUOUS
Continuous diagnostic trouble code P0107 indicated barometric pressure out of range low was detected during normal operation.

Possible cause
- faulty internal BARO sensor (PCM)

Perform KOEO On-Demand Self Test.
Is P0107 present?
Yes, REPLACE PCM. CLEAR DTC and RETEST.
No, P0107 is intermittent fault. CLEAR DTC. If DTC reappears, REPLACE PCM.

If you keep getting it, a new PCM is the only fix.

P0128 - Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

This means that the engine's PCM detected that the engine has not reached the required temperature level within a specified amount of time after starting the engine. The intent of the P0128 code is to indicate a faulty thermostat. Similar codes: P0125

In determining the engine did not reach a "normal" temperature, it takes into account the length of time the vehicle has been running, the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor reading, the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor reading, and the speed of the vehicle.

Symptoms: You will likely not notice any drivability problems other than the MIL illumination.

Causes: A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Low engine coolant level
Leaking or stuck open thermostat
Faulty cooling fan (running too much)
Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor

Possible Solutions: Past experience indicates that the most likely solution is to replace the thermostat. However here are some suggestions on troubleshooting and repairing a P0128 OBD-II code:
Verify coolant strength & level
Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary.
Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat
If Nissan vehicle, check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), as the ECM may need to be reprogrammed to correct the P0128 code


P0506 - Idle Air Control (IAC) System RPM Lower Than Expected

This P0506 code is one that's sometimes triggered on vehicles that have electronic throttle control. That is, they don't have a regular throttle cable from the accelerator pedal to the engine. They rely on sensors and electronics to control the throttle. In this case, the P0506 DTC (diagnostic trouble code) is triggered when the PCM (powertrain control module) detects an engine idle speed that is lower than the desired (pre-programmed) RPM.

Potential Symptoms: Most likely the only thing you'll notice is the idle speed is lower than normal so it will likely be rougher. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.

Causes: A P0506 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
A vacuum leak
An air restriction in the intake air path or exhuast
A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve
Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body
Internal engine problem
Failed PCM

Possible Solutions: This DTC is more of an informational code, so if there are any other codes set, diagnose them first. If there are no other codes, inspect for vacuum leaks, restrictions, and damage. If there are no symptoms other than the DTC itself, just clear the code and see whether it returns.

DTC Code of a 1404 , and also a IAT High input malfunction


sounds like the IAT is disconnected, it is either in the flex hose from the air cleaner to the engine or in the air filter housing, on my GM product car it is in the air intake hose, it is small and has a 2 wire connector to it, just pushes and pulls in and out of the flexible air intake hose.
