The engine checklight came on and I went to 3 different computer diagnostic centres and the scan showed VTEC system failure. I changed the VTEC solenoid, change vtec pressure switch, change engine oil. I used 10/30 honda synthetic blend all the time. The engine checklight still comes on. the engine oil level is ok. What is wrong is that you changed a part

You failed to follow any trouble charts because
you have none

The sensor was most likely okey & just doing it's
job of reporting a fault

You could have a mechanical problem such as a timing
belt issue or worn VVT Actuators on the end of the cames

You have to diagnose code related issues & then find out
why a sensor reported as it did

Even if you scoped the sensor you would most likely
assume it was bad,not so,have to keep thinking why the
data was bad

You need professional tools & look at several pieces of data
overlayed on a big sceen at one time

Repair shop or dealer for that issue

how do i check the oil pressure

  • Carl Nov 27, 2012

I already changed the oil pressure switch and the VTEC solenoid

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2012

When you say you checked something explain how that was done, changing parts is not a fix & most likely nothing wrong with them, codes & parts are two separate issues

If the engine calls for a 5w 30 weight motor oil, then stick with it,and use a blend,or full synthetic oil, castrol is the best, and use this fuel treatment,if you want to see a difference in fuel usage ,LUCAS fuel treatment, use it with as less as possible, fuel. It will work better,to clean the fuel system, and the injectors.Make sure the battery is real good, and check the alternator at the battery with engine running,it should read,13.65 volts,to 14.25 volts, with everything on,anything less,is not enough, replace the alternator. If the charging system, battery included,is not up to par, then the alternator works hard all the time trying to charge the battery up to full ,and it never does, because of ,either the battery is not in good shape,or the alternator is charging too little, and when the alternator engages,it pulls down on the engine, therefore using fuel more.

cant fix any engine, until you know what it there.

surge 101 (running gasoline?)
it caused by 2 things. (and lots of reasons)

hint use a scan tool see live data........?????
2: ISC system is faulting, the idle speed controller can fail for #1
or for itself. (it can stick) clean in.

Can i shift the gear immediately while climbing on a high roads from high speed to low speed on a automatic transmission 1996 honda civic vti vtec? Do i need to brake first the engine before i will shift...

That is not recommended, as it could cause transmission damage. Since you have a VTEC you should get a power boost at around 5000 rpm which should make climbing hills easier and not need a shift of the transmission.

The 1996 civic has a 1.6L b-16 engine. The only difference between the v-tec and non v-tec engine is the dual overhead cam i believe. The 93 civic also should have a b-16 engine in it. The cylinder head should work.......
