Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

I have a Nissan Mistral 1996 Auto 4WD Turbo diesel which is giving me a headache! I bought this from a 2nd owner and the car starts well, goes into 1st&2nd gear then starts struggling and revs go past 2.5, I press speed it goes over 3 revs then strugges past 40-50kmph. REverse is fine. I have had the gearbox changed twice now. My small town mechanic does not know much about auto transmission. Initially changing the oil would work but then it didnt so we got the gearbox changed. Then the car was fine for 3-4 months then now since changing oil doesnt work we were told to change gearbox again. This time around after driving for 1 week it has the same problems again. When the oil was changed this time it ran fine for a few minutes only. The mechanic showed me the transmission oil it had metal shavings and black rubber specks in it. What do you recommend next? I have never changed the transmission filter nor had a diagnostic scan done. Please help!!

SOURCE: auto transmission will not engage in DRIVE gear when starting.

IT IS THE STRAINER INSIDE THE PAN IN THE TRANSMISSION,WHEN ITS COOL THE FLUID IS TO THICK TO TRAVEL AND GRITTY TO GO THROUGH THE STRAINER SCREEN,BUT WHEN THE TRANNY WARMS THE FLUID ITS THEN ABLE TO FLOW THROUGH THE SCREEN AND SHIFT PROPERLY.

did you have a transmission flush? because its bad for older cars to get flushed because the acids they use eat away the seals and mess up your transmission more...i would recomend using some transmission conditioner

Hi. I just bought a 1995 Nissan Mistral, 2.7l

sounds like the thermostat is stuck open, meaning the engine is not getting up to running temperature. would be best to change the thermostat and give the water system a good flush out. and back flush the heater core. as you don't know how long this problem has been around it can cause rust build up in the engie as flow is weaker. when topping up use a good inhibitor antifreeze/summer coolant 50/50 mix. and run for a year with this mix in and replace it. and flush again this should of then sorted the corrosion in the water system.

1996 Nissan Maxima no 2nd gear on auto transmission?

do not flush the trans, that will make it worse.
My friend you have no second gear, you need trans rebuilt.
If you flush it now you can cause more damage.
