Mercury sable 1996 changed fuel filter had brown gas in it did this ruin fuel pump. Can hear pump when trying to start car

Most likely the fuel pump is ok, but there is likely air in the fuel line that you need to bleed off under the hood.

It is possible that the fuel pump went bad, and the way to know is to check the fuel pressure (same place you bleed it under the hood). The fuel pump is in the tank, so it's a real pain to change.

How to bleed the fuel system

1. Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the fuel pump; it is usually found between the fuel tank and the first fuel filter. Locate the manual primer on the pump. The manual primer can take the form of a lever or a plunger. 2Open the bleed plug on the fuel filter closest to the fuel tank. See the vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location of the bleed plug.3Open the fuel supply valve to allow fuel to flow from the pump to the filter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Will a bad iac cause a no start

Hi Mike,

Check to make sure you also have spark. The crank sensors on these engine are notorious for intermittent operation. A faulty sensor cuts off spark and fuel together. I would also double check for voltage to the fuel pump. If you have voltage and can not hear the pump, I would suspect a bad fuel pump. The fuel pump relay should be changed with the pump too.

Ford ranger 1996 4.0L v6 single cab long bed it runs but you have 2 have your foot on the gas it does not stay in idle for more than 5min less than that usually it does not take much gas pedal pressure to...

I would suspect that you have a failing fuel pump, the fuel pump pressure is bleeding off due to a faulty check valve, this causes hard starting esp when cold or after sitting. The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to replace the fuel pump assembly.

Hi, I have a Focus 2001 which takes a long time to crank everytime I try to start it. I have changed the spark plugs but still no help. Please can you advise?

You may have a fuel injector that is leaking. This would cause a cylinder to flood. If you can shut off the engine then restart quickly with no problems then this may be your problem. You will need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to see if fuel pressure is bleeding down when the engine is turned off. The pressure should stay stable. This is a good time to see if you have adequate fuel pressure otherwise the fuel filter, pump, or pressure regulator may be suspect.

Fuel pump issue, gradual flooding

NEED TO QUIT GUESSING.. IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.. SCAN FOR CODES. IF NONE THEN NEXT STEP IS TO CHECK FUEL PRESSURE.. IF IT IS GOOD.. THEN IF IT IS FLOODING OUT. ONCE IT IS FLOODED YOU CAN PULL SPARK PLUGS AND FIND THE ONE THAT IS WET,,, SUSPECT THAT INJECTOR TO BE STUCK OPEN

Your fuel injection pressure is probably leaking down causing gasoline to leak into the cylinders and resulting in a hard hot starting condition due to "flooding" of the engine. Try holding the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor of the car like your trying to go maximum speed down the highway and crank the engine for 10 seconds or less at a time. That tells your computer to enter the "clear flood" mode and stop injecting gas into the engine. Ask your repair shop to measure the fuel pressure and see if the pressure is bleeding off too rapidly.
