I have had this problem with my explorer before it has something to do with a trans sensor. Take to autozone get the code read and give me more info.

    Wife was driving kids to school and was only going 35 when the truck started to chug then the dash lights flickered the OD light was blinking and the truck only would go ten miles an hour or in safe mode i think. anyway i got there and the check engine light was solid i did restart etc.. od light went off and the truck ran ok so drove it home with the Check Engine Light on and it stays on.

    HMM I would deffinetly hit it with a scan tool. Sounds to me as if there is something going on with a trans control. May be something simple like a sensor or a vaccum hose leaking. Get it to a parts store that can scan it for free that way you at least know if it simple or expensive. '

SOURCE: transmission-overdrive not working properly

check the transmission fluid first .
============
overdrive allows the engine to run at lower RPM's , which increases the fuel
economy and also the transmission runs cooler

SOURCE: '97 Ford Escort leaking auto transmission fluid.

The front seal could be replaced, and not have a problem. If you have a shop other than a transmission shop do the repairs, make sure the torque converter hub is inspected to make certain its not scratched/scorn. If the trans shifts properly and the fluid is not burned or smells burned, this would be an easy repair. If the trans fluid smells burned, and hasn't been serviced regularly, the rebuild would be the way to go. Also, ask what the warranty for any and all repair are on your vehicle. Normal warranty is 1yr, 12.000 miles in the automotive business.

SOURCE: 2000 windstar airbag light is on on dash and horn

Hi Mamaberta7,
The OD light flashing is something you need to have checked using a scanner. Since this trans. was recently rebuilt, you want to get it checked soon. The transmission can default to full line pressure and this can cause damage. Also if the unit isn't locking up, it can cause the transmission to overheat.
The airbag light on and the horn not working are probably tied into the clock-spring. This is the most common concern with the symptom you have. Again, you can have the code pulled to confirm the problem or you can use a DVOM (Digital volt/ohm meter) and check for continuity through the clock-spring. If you want to check it yourself, let me know and I will get you the steps to down the system and the wiring diagram.
If you have any other questions, drop me a line. Thanks,Chuck

My 2002 a-6 3.0 suddenly started running rough-engine light is on and blinks at 45mph. runs doggedly

Check oil and coolant levels (at the radiator cap) first. Run fault codes to find which sensor triggered the engine light . The light is to tell you that the engine is in danger of failure so do not dismiss the light as not important.. Hot smells mean that the engine is very hot and you may not have any coolant in the system to activate the temp light or gauge.

What fault codes do you have? to check for fault codes using the check engine light blink method do the following, turn the key to run and then off, then to run and then off, then to run and watch the check engine light, count the blinks, there will be a pause and then more blinks, that is the code(s) So lets say it blinks 2 times and then 5 times, that is code 25. Google the code or codes under the heading: "Dodge OBD1 fault codes"

Check the timing. When you shoot a timing light at the crank, the mark should stay basically in one spot. If it jumps around, it's slipped a cog.
Has this engine been running, or are you just getting it going for the first time, or did it die on you or what?
