Question about 2001 Kia Sportage

1 Answer

Kia sportage front hub hose name

There is a broken hose (not the brake line) that attaches to my front hub of my 2001 Kia Sportage 4WD. I think it's the line that engages the automatic hubs, but i can't locate it in any aftermarket auto parts retailer. I can't find the name, or what category is falls under.

If its a ruber hose you may just be able to buy one at the shop. May not be a specific part. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: 2001 Kia sportage. When

The original hubs are vacumn operated. There is an electric vacumn valve on the left side of the engine compartment. With the motor running you can pull the line to the hubs and shift the car into 4wd and feel if you have suction on the valve. If you do have vacumn there then I would check the rubber hoses that go from the body to the back of the spindles in the front wheel wells for leaks.

IT IS PROBABLY THE LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL. IT USES A VACUUM TO LOCK IN THE FRONT WHEELS. CHECK TO SEE IF THE HOSES ARE ROTTED OR CHRACKED OR TORN. OR IT COULD BE THE VACCUM TANK OR PUMP IS BAD

Kia sportage 4wd won't engage, unrelated to vaccum hubs

a quick fix to solve the problem with the 4wd not working on the sportage is fitst check the vacume soionoid is working lockated by the suspention turet on theL/H side of the engine bay, then, chech hoses going to the hub, if there is still a vacume leek from the hub remove the 6 bolts from the outer hub locker place in vice remove the circlip, remove the spring, remove the spline gear then take the spring and swap it around so that it gose under the gear so that it is in conatant mesh/ lock, build back up and fit, it means the front axle will be live all the time but you will still be able to select 2 /4wd,,

4wd not engaging

Hi,

I have a 2000 Sportage EX, had the same trouble.

The 4wd works by Vacuum lines(rubber hoses) that uses air to lock the front hubs in.

Usually the rubber hose line behind the front tires at hub to the frame become dry rot,cracked---replace them and try it.

If hoses still good or replaced and still not working----there is a Vacuum pump under the hood near brake master cylinder(driver side on inner fender near windshield)---It looks like the size of a "D" flashlight battery with hoses attached and a single wire connected to bottom of it----sometimes these little pumps go bad too.

Other than that the Front hubs(automatic) might be bad(like a leaky air bag that wont inflate to lock hubs)---this can be a costly replace.

One last resort to avoid all this hassle----get a manual "WARN" locking hubs put on car(about $150)---this way you can lock the hubs manually by a 1/4 turn slot at each front tire to go in 4wd when needed.

Good luck---hope this helps.

I got ripped off by a dealer with a similar problem that came back two weeks later. $2.99 of vacuum hose later I fixed it myself. Check all the vacuum lines for rotted hoses before you fork out 3K and they are easy to do
