Hi my missus went to fill car up but left the radio on and now the fuel gauge is not working any ideas please

Most likely the fuel sending unit in the fuel tank decided to die. Leaving the radio or the engine running wouldn't affect the sender.

Why is my fuel gauge going way past full when you turn on the ignetion

As most fuel gauges work on power to the gauge sender and through a variable resistor connected to a float arrangement or fuel resistance , it suggests that the wire to the tank sender unit is shorting out indicating an overfull full tank

Why fuel guage is not working

Hi dear,
If the fuel gauge does not work must be verified:
1. gasoline pump gauge wire if it is cut
2. Remove the gasoline pump and check the float arm if it is stuck
3 . Electronic Resistance in the gasoline pump damaged and need to replace

Failed fuel level sending unit

Often times it is the wire from the gauge or even the ground wire on the tank. If you run a temporary wire from the body (find a place that is out of sight, scratch the paint off and connect a wire with a ring terminal end and the other end to the sender. The old Isuzu's were metal, either way the sender should have some metal to it. The gauge works with the sender to measure resistance to ground. The gauge has a ground and (+) positive through the key. If the gauge just pegs to past full, the sender wire is either disconnected or the sender is bad.

The temperature gauge goes up when car starts to HOT like its out of calibration. the engine is not overheating

check that the wire to the temp sender unit has not fallen off and is shorting out on the head/block. The power comes from the ignition switch through the gauge down to the sender unit and because the sender is a temperature controlled resistance unit the voltage is very low and so the gauge reads cold . as the temperature heats up , the resistance is decreased and so the voltage is increased though the gauge and the needle reads higher.. Hench if the gauge goes directly to hot on start up the wire is shorting out or the sender unit is faulty.

Fuel gauge stays at 3/4, after fill up

fuel gauges work using a variable resistor. Typically, when the fuel level is low, the fuel level sender is working at a high resistance. When the tank is full, the sender is working with a low resistance. Anything that increases the resistance in the circuitry will lead to a false low reading. Dirty or corroded wire terminals in the fuel sender circuit would raise the resistance. If you can remove the fuel sender unit from the tank, you can use an ohm meter to check its resistance. When the float is low, you should see a resistance of around 100 ohms. When the float is up (tank full) you should see a low resistance of about 2-5 ohms.

Fuel gauge not working stays on emtpty all the time . were is the best place to start looking for fault?

connections under the car leading to the fuel sender unit.
test gauge with multimeter for continiuity
take tank off and inspect fuel sender unit for signs of physical damage around the copper coil and test with multimeter for resistance by moving float up and down and resistance should increase one way and decrease the other way

Fuel gauge doesn't work 1999 pontiac sunfire

check fuses, remove sender unit from tank, connect ohm meter to it and physically move arm up and down slowly and check for increase/decrease in resistance,if this is ok then supply power to the wiring to gauge and see if the needle rises,if no change in resistance sender is rooted,if no change in gauge when it is supplied power then the gauge is rooted, when diagnosing electrical probs always check fuses firstelectrical
