i thought it might have been from catalytic converter over heating and glowing red hot. I also have electrical issues, could that affect reverse?

  • Anonymous Nov 27, 2012

You have a burnt trans & now say the converter got red hot. I don't know the year but the repair will cost more than the car is worth at this point. Converter,O2 Sensors,Trans & the cause of the converter failure, forget it. Too many issues inless under ten years old

SOURCE: 93 Saab 900 manual transmission is seizing

check the fluid ( reg oil 5 w 30 or 10 w 30 )by checking the check point when the car is cold ( not run for 6 hours) on the passenger side bold under the exhaust manifold. I think it is 19 mm. you should have 3 quarts. Also there is a filter on the rear cover that has a magnetic trap that needs to be replaced. Also you need the rear gasket if you are taking that panel off. dont reuse paper gaskets! they will always fail.

in that transmission shift gear first, then give gas. it is not very forgiving.

SOURCE: automatic 3 speed transmission wont shift out of first gear

that is what they consider safe mode for those transmissions, they are a very smart electronic transmission it does that so you dont ruin the trans.
It has detected a problem and you must take it to a tech and have the codes pulled, could be as simple as a sensor or solenoid pack

SOURCE: I need an engine diagram for a 1995 saab 900 se V6

A SAAB dealer should be able to print one out for you. BTW that engine is practically identical to the V6 used in a caddy Catera, and Saturn Ion. Those diagrams would be the same, so you might want to search that also.

I have a 1998 Oldsmobile intrigue (automatic). The car drives fine in reverse, however when I put it in drive, the car does not move. You have to rev the motor up real high for it to move an inch. Any...

The transmission is nearly dry. Add some transmission fluid! Automatic transmissions require oil pressure for the car to move, and if you don't have enough oil in it, it won't build up enough pressure to move the car

I.m not familiar with Saab but I'm thinking that your transmission might have a bent fork inside that changes the gears. possible the one for 4th and reverse. I've heard of that problem on other carswith manual trans.

What will it cost to replace the transmission for a 1995 Saab 900SE - no reverse gear.

It would be much cheaper to get the reverse gear replaced than to buy a new transmission. Even if you get a used one, you need to get some kind of warranty with it in case that one does not work out.

Reverse not working in my 1995 saab a week after the clutch was

Standard tranny's are pretty simple. Sounds like some of the linkage came unconnected. Take it back to whoever replaced the clutch and have them repair the problem. They apparently didn't put it back together right. You have to disconnect the linkage to pull the transmission to replace the clutch.

How do i get my key out of a 1996 saab 900

As part of the safety/theft detterent system, most SAABs will only allow key removal when YOU PUT THE (manual) TRANSMISSION IN REVERSE. Not sure how it would work with an automatic transmission. If yours is a manual transmission, give that a try. I had a 1992 SAAB 900S convertible. Ran like a raped ape but the A/C gave out on us. Miss the old girl though.

Hope this helps!

Bad syncro for third gear. Sorry, but you aren't fixing this one yourself, unless you replace the transmission yourself.

No forward movement but reverse works fine. Help?

More than likely the forward clutches are burnt, causing the no forward movement problem.Remove the transmission dipstick and smell the fluid,if it smells like burnt coffee then you need the transmission rebuilt.
