The headlamps are controlled by the BCM - body control module , do you know what that is ? The headlamp switch is a input to the BCM ,the BCM energizes relays to turn on the headlmps , low beam relay , high beam relay , DRL relay . These relay's are PCB - printed circuit board relay's ( non - serviceable ) If found to be bad the whole under hood fuse box would need to be replaced .
Low Beam Headlamp Operation
The low beam headlamps may be turned ON in 3 different ways:
• When the headlamp switch in the HEAD position for normal operations
• When the headlamp switch is in the AUTO position, for automatic lamp control (ALC)
• When the headlamp switch is placed in the AUTO position, with the windshield wipers ON in daylight conditions, after a 6 second delay
Battery voltage is applied at all times to the coil and switch sides of the LOW BEAM PCB Relay located in the underhood fuse block. When the headlamp switch is placed in the HEAD position, ground from G202 is applied through headlamps ON switch signal circuit to the body control module (BCM), signaling the headlamps ON request. In response to this signal, the BCM applies ground through the headlamp low beam relay control circuit energizing the low beam relay. With the relay energized, battery voltage is applied through the switch side of the relay, the left and right low beam fuses, and the low beam supply voltage circuits illuminating the low beam headlamps. Ground for the left headlamp is provided at G101 and the right headlamp at G100.

Do you know what B codes are ? BCM - DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes , need a factory scanner or professional one to view these codes , not autozone or advance etc....Having a qualified repair shop check your vehicle would be your best bet.

DTC B2575 00: Headlamp Control Circuit

Circuit/System Description
The vehicle headlamps are controlled by the body control module (BCM) based on inputs from the headlamp switch and the turn signal/multifunction switch. The headlamp switch has four positions: Off, Auto, Park, and Headlamps. The default headlamp switch position is Auto, in which the BCM uses the ambient light sensor to determine when headlamps are needed. The Off portion of the headlamp switch is a momentary switch which overrides the automatic headlamps and will turn off the vehicle headlamps. When in the Off position, the headlamp switch grounds the headlamp switch headlamps off signal circuit, prompting the BCM to turn off the headlamps. The Park position of the headlamp switch will only illuminate the vehicle parking lamps. The Headlamp position of the headlamp switch will illuminate both the parking lamps, as well has the headlamps. With the headlamp switch in the Headlamp position, the headlamp switch headlamps on signal circuit is grounded, prompting the BCM to turn on the headlamps, regardless of other factors such as ambient light.
The headlamp high beams are controlled through the flash to pass switch and the headlamp dimmer switch, both located in the turn signal/multifunction switch. The flash to pass switch is a momentary type switch, designed to illuminate the high beams as long as the switch is held. With the switch closed, the flash to pass switch signal circuit is grounded, prompting the BCM to turn on the high beam lamps. The headlamp dimmer switch allows the operator to select between full time high or low beam operation. Unlike the flash to pass switch, it is not a momentary switch. When the headlamp dimmer switch is in the high beam position, the headlamp dimmer switch high beam signal circuit is grounded. This prompts the BCM to turn on the high beam lamps.
The BCM controls the headlamps based on the inputs explained above. When a low beam request is received, the BCM grounds the headlamp low beam relay control circuit. This energizes the coil in the LOW BEAM PCB relay, causing the relay switch to close. This then applies B+ to both low beam headlamps through the LT LO BEAM and RT LO BEAM fuses, illuminating the low beam headlamps. When a high beam request is received, the BCM grounds the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. This energizes the coil in the HIGH BEAM PCB relay, causing the relay switch to close. This then applies B+ to both high beam headlamps through the LT HI BEAM and RT HI BEAM fuses, illuminating the high beam headlamps

The headlamps may be turned ON 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMP position, for normal operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the AUTO position, for automatic lamp control (ALC). During ALC, the headlamps will be OFF in daylight conditions, or low beam operation in low light conditions. Battery positive voltage is supplied to the low beam relay and the high beam relay in the underhood fuse block. When low beam headlamps are requested, the body control module (BCM) supplies ground to the coil side of the low beam relay. This activates the relay and the relay supplies voltage to the left hand low beam headlamp through the LH LOW BEAM fuse and to the right hand low beam headlamp through the RH LOW BEAM fuse. Ground for the left hand low beam headlamp is provided at G101. Ground for the right hand low beam headlamp is provided at G102. When high beam headlamps are requested, the body control module (BCM) supplies ground to the coil side of the high beam relay. This activates the relay and the relay supplies voltage to the left hand high beam headlamp through the LH HIGH BEAM fuse and to the right hand high beam headlamp through the RH HIGH BEAM fuse. Ground for the left hand high beam headlamp is provided at G101. Ground for the right hand high beam headlamp is provided at G102.

Your headlamps , instrument cluster lights , warning lights , gauges etc... are all computer controlled in some way . Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in various modules on your vehicle ! That is always the first place to start. This problem if no DTC'S are stored , checking the affected electrical circuits for shorts , opens , high resistance etc... would be a good next step . Also checking power and grounds of controlling module , in this case the BCM - body control module .

The body control module (BCM) applies a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to the headlamp module and high beam relay in the underhood fuse block. The ground for the headlamp module is supplied from G113 or G115. For normal manual low beam operation when the headlamp switch is place in the HEAD position, ground from G202 is applied through the headlamp switch and to the BCM through the headlamp switch headlamps ON signal circuit. The BCM then applies a PWM voltage to the headlamp module/high beam relay voltage supply circuit. The headlamp module then applies battery positive voltage through the left front (LF) and right front (RF) LO Beam fuses to the left and right low beam headlamps. The ground for the left headlamps is supplied by G101 and the ground for the right headlamp is supplied by G100.
For high beam operation, ground is applied at all times to the headlamp dimmer switch from G202. When the headlamp dimmer switch is placed in the HIGH position, ground is then applied through the headlamp dimmer switch signal circuit to the BCM. The BCM then applies a ground to the headlamp high beam relay control circuit. This energizes the HI Beam relay, the relay then applies battery positive voltage through the LF and RF HI BEAM fuses to the LF and RF high beam headlamps. The ground for the left headlamps is supplied by G101 and the ground for the right headlamp is supplied by G100.
The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the instrument cluster in order to illuminate the high beam indicator lamp. If the headlamp switch is left in the HEAD position, the inadvertent power control feature will turn OFF the headlamps after 10 minutes after you turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. If you place the headlamp switch in the head position after the ignition switch has been turned OFF, or if the ignition switch is in ACCY position, the headlamps will remain ON until you turn them OFF or until the battery runs dead.

It could be the lamp control module !
Headlamps
Battery positive voltage (B+) is applied at all times to the lamp control module (LCM) through the underhood fuse block HDLP fuse.
When you place the headlamp switch in the HEAD position, the headlamps input to the LCM is grounded. The LCM then applies battery positive voltage (B+) through the underhood fuse block HDLOBML fuse and HDLOBMR fuse, which feed the left low beam headlamp and the right low beam headlamp respectively. When you activate the headlamp dimmer switch by pulling on the multifunction lever until the switch clicks, the high beam input circuit to the LCM in grounded . The LCM then removes battery positive voltage (B+) from the low beam headlamps and supplies battery positive voltage (B+) through the underhood fuse block HDHIBML fuse and HDHIBMR fuse, which feed the left high beam headlamp and the right high beam headlamp respectively.
Check this fuse in the left under hood fuse box first. HDLOBMR Fuse 18 10 Amp. RH Low Beam Headlamp . If the fuse is good check for B+ voltage with the low beams on . Use a test light or volt meter . If you look on top of fuse there are two metal tabs ,check there for B+ voltage , If no B+ voltage the LCM - lamp control module isn't supplying any .

Did you check the high/ low beam headlamp relay ? Stuck contacts in side relay .Plus headlamp relay an DRL relay .All are located in the underhood relay center .
The headlamps are controlled by the body control module (PZM). The battery positive voltage (B+) is applied at all times through the HDLPS fuse at the switch side of the headlamp relay via CKT 340 (ORN).
Battery positive voltage (B+) is also applied at all times through the RADIO/PHONE fuse to the coil side of the high/low beam headlight relay via CKT 40 (ORN/BLK). Both relays are controlled by the PZM at separate output cavities.

When the headlamp switch is in the HEAD position, the instrument cluster headlamp switch input is grounded through CKT 10 (YEL) and the headlamp switch. The instrument cluster sends a request through the Class 2 serial data line to the BCM in order to active the low beam headlamps. The BCM supplies positive battery voltage (B +) to the coil side of the headlamp relay via CKT 352 (WHT). The coil receives ground through the headlamp switch via CKT 10 (YEL). The coil of the headlamp relay is then energized, closing the switch contacts. Battery positive voltage (B +) is then applied through the high/low beam headlamp relay via CKT 1346 (LT BLU) and the L HDLP LO fuse and R HDLP LO fuse via CKT 12 (TAN) to the left and the right low beam headlamps respectively.
This may sound pretty complex .

I have a 2011 Hyundai Elantra . I am going to Canada and have to install a DRL. I have a Grote 44040 Module,but the instructions for my car are not clear - can you help?


Okay, this is pretty simple. There are three wires:
1. Pink - Goes to your ignition circuit - provides power to the module when the ignition switch is in the ON position this wire should also have an inline fuse .
2. Yellow - this one goes to the headlamp low-beam circuit on your vehicle - provides power to the healamps any time the ignition switch is on and the headlamp switch is off.
3. Blue - this one goes to your park/marker lamp circuit - signals the module that the headlamp switch has been turned on and cuts power from the yellow wire so headlamps can operate normally.

Your car should work very well with this:
Go to the engine compartment fuse and relay box. Here you will find fuses for the low beam headlamps and the high beam headlamps. There are fuses for the left and right sides. Don't worry about whether you are working with the left or the right, because both of these fuses get their power from the low beam relay - it splits beyween left and right after the relay. If you power one of these fuses, you will power them both. The yellow wire can connect either to the fuse itself (with a fuse tap) or you can splice into the low beam headlamp wiring as it comes out of the fuse block. Where the ER FRONT harness plugs in to the fuse block the headlamp circuits are GREEN for the high beam and YELLOW for the low beam. Look for Pins 16 and 17. (These will be the easiest to identify because they are right next to each other) Pin 16 should be GREEN and Pin 17 will be YELLOW. The YELLOW wire from the DRL module connects to the YELLOW wire at Pin 17.

Next is the PINK wire on the DRL. On the same connector (ER FRONT) at the fuse block, Pin #11 should have two wires: a RED/BLACK wire and a PINK wire. Splice the PINK wire from the DRL to the PINK wire that comes out of this connector. - this wire is only hot with the key in the ON position.

The BLUE wire on the DRL wil have to connect to either the left or right side marker lamp circuit. The easiest place to do this would be at the headlamp assembly. The marker circuits will be a GREEN/ORANGE wire at the left headlamp assembly, or you can go to the PINK wire at the right headlamp assembly. (The left side would probably be the easiest.) It is important to hook to one of these wires and not one of the turn signal or headlamp circuits. It will not function properly if you do this.
If you hook to a headlamp circuit, it won't work at all and if you hook to the turn signal it will cause your headlamps to flash off every time the turn signal flashes on.

Turn the ignition switch on, and you should have DRL headlamps. Check the function of all of your lights after installation, including the high- beams and turn signal - just to make sure it is wired correctly.

Ground for the headlamps on your vehicle are after the turn/ headlamp / wiper switch . No grounds under the hood . ground G-201 is the ground point for the headlamps .

There is a left an a right headlamp fuse located in the under hood junction block (fusebox) B+ voltage from that fuse goese directly to the headlamps from the headlamps goes back to the junction block (internal ) from there to the headlamp switch , ground is through the switch to G- 201 . F18 (10 A) - RH headlamp - high beam
F19 (10 A) - LH headlamp - high beam
F20 (10 A \ 15A) - RH headlamp - low beam, headlamp adjustment
F21 (10 A \ 15A) - LH headlamp - low beam, headlamp adjustment

For Audi A4 the fuse box is located on the left side of dashboard behind a plastic cover (for left hand steering wheel vehicle). On inner face of the plastic cover you will find the fuse diagram.
