The differential went out on my 86 camry, I have the parts to rebuild it, I just need the book to help me along. My other problem is I spent my money on the parts. Is there a free repair manual some place?

You can Google that and get detailed instructions. If you have never replaced gears in a pumpkin before you probably have little chance of doing it yourself. Pulling out your reciever and replacing the bearings and the ring and and pinion gears, or spiders if needed is actually ez. Putting them back is a different story. The carrier needs to be alaigned perfectly. You will need the shim one side or both and use a micrometer to get it right. If even one thing is off by a mm, you'll just blow it it up again. Im not saying dont, If you think you can, go for it. But if you have no experience with rear ends, I would not recommend it. Good luck. John...

Code means pressure control solenoids is open. If this is problem, you will experience harsh shifts like a bang into 2nd gear when accelerating hard. The PCM is not sensing the resistance the solenoid's coil should produce thus setting the code. You could have a bad connector, broken wire or bad solenoid. Please check or have everything checked before you start spending money. Remember, you did not fix the vehicle if you kept changing parts until it worked right. You merely spent too much money on a partial rebuild!

86 toyota pickup shakes and shuts off when put in gear

2 things come to mind.
1. I don't know from your description which engine it has but it may be that the distributor or vacuum advance is malfunctioning or blocked.
2. Timing is a few degrees off.
Hope this helps

Rear Differential

The mechanic is right, you should fix it before the differential back there either locks up or strips teeth, in either case you will be stranded. Probably your best bet is to check out a used, complete rear end, and install it. One major precaution if you go this way, you must replace yours with the exact same ratio. There should be a tag under one of the cover bolts which will show your ratio. He is also right about rebuilding with new parts, and in addition to cost of parts, is hard to find someone who is qualified to set it up once repairs are made. Rebuilding rear ends requires special training, and many mechanics do not have it.
