1994 Accord ABS light stays on intermittantly after startup.
My 1994 Accord ABS light comes on and goes back off normally when the car is started when cold (after sitting at least 8 hours). When I restart after a shorter stop, the ABS light will stay on until I turn the key off. The brakes seems to act mostly normal otherwise. It has 123k miles and middling maintenance. Any ideas?

If the ABS light is on than there is an active problem with the ABS system. If it comes on and stays on when you start the car it is failing the self test. Repairing the problem will turn out the light.
If it comes on for a couple seconds when you start the car then goes out until you start to move than there is likely a problem with a speed sensor. Again repairing the problem will turn off the light.
Your best bet is to pull the codes from the abs system to see what the problem is then repair it.
If the light is staying on, there is some problem with the system. the light comes on at startup as it soes a selftest. If it stays on, sounds like you will need a code reader to find out what the issue is. Try your local autoparts house. They often have a code reader and will help you diagnose the issue.
It is normal for light to lite up at first start and then go out. Sometimes it may stay on a little longer because the sensors on the wheels may be dirty and it take the PCM a little long to find it' circuit. IT is OK.
it sounds like it is the speedometer cable that goes from the speedometer gauge to the transmission is wearing out.unless you have done one of these before then i would suggest having someone do it for you.
