Concerned about the smoke & continue to use it ?

Once it gets going?

I would say you don't care much about what could
happen next.

White smoke out the exhaust is a bad head gasket
Blue smoke is oil

95 ford probe car runs ok but blows whitish blue smoke as accelerate

That is probably the head gasket leaking. White smoke is from antifreeze going through the exhaust. The engine compression is pushing the water out of the radiator.

2002 kia sportage overheated and now will not start

Well the alternator would have nothing to do with the overheating! If the alt went bad, you'd be having electrical issues, not cooling issues. Why would you change an Alternator if it was overheating? Was somthing else happening at the time to make you think you had a electrical issue?

The thermostat could be stuck closed or the water pump failed, both common issue, sound like somthing is causing the engine to either run hot, or not cool properly.

Once the engine has overheated sadly the damage is done, you could have simply cooked a sensor,or it could be as bad as you could have warped the block or head, or one of a number of other things!

Hot engines are hard to start, you should let them compleatly cool down first! In fact you should have either checked the car out or had someone check it out before attempting to start or drive it again, this is why god created tow trucks! A $50 towing charge or a $5000 engine repair bill, I know which one I would choose!

Did the check engine light come on? Any other symptoms?

1999 kia sportage starts sometimes, has new battery, starter.you can take it to work,it sets all day,you get off work and it wont start . the engine will turn over but will not fire. never know if it starts...

Hi,
I am sorry for the delayed response as i was not at my desk.
Be advised that as i do not have any luxury to examine your car myself, i cannot provide legitimate 2nd opinion, however would be able to add few inputs to the question you posted.
I am assuming that there is no check engine light being ON. If you could see check engine light being ON, you need to take the car to the nearest auto zone center and get it scanned without any charge. You could forward the codes to me and i would be able to follow up.
Though this is a common problem on 98 and 99 models. The most common concern on SPORTAGE for doing that is fuel pump. Checking the fuel pressure when the car would not fire, is a good way to verify if it is the pump for sure. Checking the fuel pressure would would verify that the pump is actually being turned ON. The other suspect could be crankshaft position sensor. A lot of times, when the car is cranking and there is no tachometer movement that indicates a faulty crank sensor. When cranking the rpms should read about 200 - 400.
To check the fuel pressure, you need to buy a fuel pressure guage and it gets installed onto the front of the fuel rail on the engine.
There are few other details that we need to diagnose later on once we would eliminate the major causes.
Let me know,once done.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

I have a 200 kia sportage it wouldnt start so i got a jump and it started but there was white smoke coming from my muffler it stopped but my radiator was bad so i replaced it was running ok , then the next...

Sounds like you are getting coolant inside the cumbustion chambers in the engine. possible blown head gasket, or cracked head. get it checked by a pro. this could be very costly, but messing with it could cause more damage, such as bent connecting rods from trying to compress liquid coolant. good luck.

My kia sportage diesel is puffing blue smoke.

Nothing to fix friend. See, in diesel, when cold, there is an electric plunger on the throttle that speeds the idle a bit till warm up. Connected to that same wire is the cold start/temperature sensor. When cold/cool this sensor will excite the plunger to speed the idle, and put more fuel into the engine making the smoke you see, until warm up is reached and the sensor shuts down. You really don't have a repair needed friend.

If water got on plugs etc , the car may miss twice then the light will come on. You may not notice the miss. Put a code reader on and see what comes up. Once the water is gone everything shold go back to normal.
