SOURCE: BATTERY LIGHT STARTED BLINKING 2 DAYS AGO AND NOW

Is the fan belt tight? If so using an amp. meter, start engine & check by putting leads on neg. & pos. of battery. Reading should be higher than 13.2 if lower replace alternator. Good luck!

SOURCE: Starting problems

My car recently had starter problems. It would make a weird sound when i started the car and then one day it wouldn't start at all. it wasn't the battery because the lights were working and so was the radio. I had the starter replaced for about $200 and now its starting a lot better.

Yes it can be a clogged or bad injector or low compression in cylinder #2. Remove the plugs and run a compression test first. If compression is good I'd say it was a bad injector.

First get safety glasses, put vehicle in park, set parking brake.,BLOCK WHEELS....Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to reset computer system....reconnect cable..make sure all fuses/relays are operable..make sure it has fuel in tank...Turn ignition and listen for fuel pump to engage..If all works well try to start it...If not..get a long..2 or 3 foot jumper cable to by-pass ignition system..have a helper to turn ignition switch on but do not try to start it..Be safe..get under vehicle..,attach jumper wire to hot post at starter and small S-wire at top of starter solenoid..make sure alligator clips are tight...As soon as you touch them it should crank....If it does the problem is in ignition system.....YOU HAVE TO STAY CLEAR OF FAN AND ALL MOVING BELTS AND COMPONENTS WHILE UNDER VEHICLE !!!.......If no luck write me back.....BROOKS....

Ignition problem

Check if the small wire on the starter has power with the key held in crank position. If battery voltage there, either bad battery cables or connections, or the starter solenoid has a malfunction. If no power when key held in start, it could be the safety switch (a clutch interlock switch on manual transmissions, or a park/neutral switch on automatics). You may need a wiring diagram to see the start circuit from ignition switch to the starter solenoid-some have a start relay in that circuit.

Check battery wires for tightness. That sounds likely to be the problem

1994 GMC SAfari has been sitting in yard for about 8 months was running fine when parked can not get it to start even on charger

Check your battery cable ends to be sure they are clean and tight and the battery may need a slow trickle charge over night to generate enough power to crank the engine. If it's not cranking at all the battery may also need replaced. Another thing to consider is checking all the wires to the starting system as mice love to chew on wire insulation and there may be a short somewhere if there are bare wires.

I turn the switch on a 1999 gmc sirrea and it would not say nothing.it will not start

Be sure it is in park...Sounds like a dead battery.....If you know for sure battery is good you have to check alll fuses for power...If the battery is good for sure and you turn the switch on and cant get power to any fuses or no dash lights then the ignition switch has failed....You will have to use a test light to check fuse power..So if all is good ...battery,fuses,and dash lights come on when ignition is turned on check to be sure battery cables are tight then it should be the starter....sometimes the small wire that connects to the starter solenoid will vibrate loose and all you have to do is tighten wire but disconnect battery before you tighten wire...check all wires connected to starter....If all is clean and tight then the starter has failed...hope this will help....I am standing by if you need more assistance...........................................metalpoet

Could be a miss aligned switch try wiggling the shifter in park the next time it dose not start to see if starts. Also dirty battery cables will give you the same crazy makes no sense problems. Clean both the post of the battery and the cable ends and make sure they are tight. Your car needs a completely charged battery (14.2volt at the ignition) to start, were as the radio and other electronics, locks, windows, etc. only need a few amps. .

02 vw euro, 60k miles, intermitent no power to ignition switch. This symptom has only occured 6 or 8 times. Turn key...lights come on, no noise, no click, no crank, nothing....first occured. 2 months...

Sounds like it may be related to the 'neutral safety switch'. When you turn the key to start the engine, current goes from the ignition switch through the neutral safety switch to the starter relay, then on to the starter. Some cars have a shift linkage adjustment to make sure the trans is fully into park; mal-adjustment could cause what you describe. Anyway, start diagnosis at neutral switch and proceed to starter relay. Don't forget to check starter power feed wiring for loose/corroded connections. I've seen many cars exhibit this condition after being driven in heavy rain, etc., and in most cases, the battery wire on the starter, or the ignition trigger connection had become corroded enough that contact was lost, sometimes intermittently. It is important when checking these to actually disconnect these wires and look for corrosion, etc. especially the spade terminal for the trigger wire(be sure to disconnect battery before using tools on the starter battery wire)

The lights will come on an the battery is indicating a full charge but my 2004 535i BMW will not start. It will not make any sounds when I turn the key to the start position. The other day it was slow...

Have the battery load tested. it dosen't take much power to operate lights and under load, the battery may have enough volts but not enough amps to turn the starter. If battery checks good with load test, check the starter for excessive draw and check all connections at battery, starter and block ground.
