Hi,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Mechanic (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: Problems with Gearshift 2004 Lincoln Navigator

Turn the key forward a notch then it should come out. If you are turning the key all the way off it enables the accessories (radio etc), locks the key in the ignition and disables the gear shifter.
If thats not the case then there is a button to be depressed so that the key can turn anticlockwise>off another click and the key can be removed.
It'll be one or the other....faulty ignition lock is the only other diagnosis

A safety feature on your car is that it will not shift out of "park" if you are not applying the brakes . Make sure your doing that while trying to shift out of park .

SOURCE: 2005 Lincoln Navigator. Message says to Check

Most likely the problem you are experiencing with the park assist is a fault in one of the sensors mounted in the rear bumper. I would not consider it to be a major fix, however there will be a few hours labor involved as the bumper cover needs to be removed to replace the sensors.

My 2001 Lincoln Navigator is making a rattling noise when the car is in park, could it be the Compressor bracket or the suspension stablizer?

it could be many things give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your SUV wish you the best of luck Michigan Man you can also stop by your local lincoln dealership and talk to the service manger to see if he or she would go for a ride with you and they be able to tell you what it is.

The gear shift on my 1998 Lincoln Navigator is difficult to move out of park. It started about a month ago, when I tried to back out of my parking spot at home. Tonight, the vehicle died on me at a stop...

It can be either the shift cable or the Automatic parking brake release.
With your vehicle stalling it sounds like the parking brake release is leaking vacuum and causing stalling.

You can check with Autozone or Oreillys to see if there is an aftermarket part for that. Then locate the Auot release on your vehicle and when you take it off, slide the parts within the fixture to verify sticking.
