Question about 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab
Was going to work one cold morning, just pulled out on highway and ran it up to about 60 mph, and when it went to shift to od it was like it went to nuetral. Checked the linkages on both trans and tranfer case. Changed the fluid and filter, didn't look bad or smell burnt. Was some fine metal on the magnet but nothing out of the ordinary. Jacked up one rear tire and tried to spin it but could not. Also unplugged the battery and computer for three days to see if it would reset something. Shows no sign of driveshaft trying to move and never made any sounds. Any ideas will be appreciated. Truck has 360 motor with 226000 miles.
Well sorry to say, but the 226000 miles might have somthing to do with it :(. Are you getting no gears, or just not OD. I have had problems with trannys many times and have never have lost all gears at once. It could be eletrical. Shift solinoids, etc. If you lost all gears at once not sure. I have just lost 3rd and 4th, plus OD in my GMC. Turned out to be my main wiring harness to the ignition switch, so I hope its turn out to be that simple. Sorry could not help more. Good luck. Does it have a on off switch for the Over Drive?
on some models there is a overdrive senor or vaccum pot to switch it into O D They attend to freeze up and not allow it to work properly.
If you have access to a heated shop leave it inside for a day and see if that works
