SOURCE: have replaced whole ignition system

Have you taken the passanger side valve cover off while the cars running? Doing this you will see if the valve is opening at the intake valve allowing gas vapors to fill the cylinders so as to ignite and exit out the exhaust. No fuel from intake valve no heat from exhaust. I have another idea as well but this is the quickest and most simple.

Hi....
Is there a few possibilities for a Low mileage per gallon on any car.
But I will mention the more Importants.

The Spark plugs.
Depend on the Mileage on your car, Normally For a Prizm.
The spark plug should be changed every 30,000 Miles.
With Factory Dippon Denso ( ND) or NGK. Both are factory replacement.

Check for any Vaccum leak on the Intake Manifold and The Big Rubber hose from the Throttle Body
To the Air filter.. Or any restriction on the Big rubber hose.

Is very Important to Have changed the Oil every 3,000 miles.
Incredible But Old oil made any car to have low mileage per gallon.

Check the condition of the Transmission Fluid .
Is nessesary to change the first time at 60,000, and after Every 20,000 or 30,000 miles.
To old or burn Transmission fluid made the car run on more RPM to get power.
Compare with new oil ,

Ok. is there a few more things but check this first and let me know.

I hope this help on your question.
Thank you for use fixya.

I have a 2006 chevy cobalt ls. 2.2L with 142k miles. I am currently looking for the compression in psi of the stock ecotec engine. Mine is at 120Psi across the board, but not sure what the spec is.

There's no maximum spec, but no cylinder should be under 100 psi. Also, the cylinders should be within 1-20 psi of each other. If you have one cylinder under spec, could be worn rings/valve guides, blown head gasket at point between coolant jacket. If two adjacent cylinders under spec, will be blown head gasket at point between cylinders.

1992 chevy k1500 engine turns over but will not start, getting fuel and fire

what is left is low compression
valves or rings

cant time manually if the motor is using coil packs

timing adjust can be done manually carby or efi dissy
number one cyl to tdc on compression stroke
make sure crank timing marker and balancer mark are as per spec
take cap off make sure rotor is closest to caps number one cylinder pick up plug lead

Engine compression specs

You should have at least 100psi per cylinder, but more importantly, they should all be very close to the same compression - within about 10psi to 15psi of each other. There should be NO "odd" compression on any cylinder, high or low.

Why will it cranks but not start

the G10 engine? or ?

spark to all 4 cylinder or just one, is good?

if all are good

and compression way low below 150psi

then the belt slipped the timing belt

if compression is at spec, then try test fuel

runs for 3 sec, that means lost fueling.

so its the belt. the compression likes to drop to 80PSI (1/2 normal)

as the cam goes WAY RETARDED. natrually.

2000 NEON NOT FIRING ON THE #1 CILENDER

#1 cylinder not firing, check spark plug, spark plug wire, remove spark plug and use a compression tester, and check the compression of that cylinder. should have at least 65 pounds of compression per cylinder. If the compression is low, you may try shooting a little oil in to that cylinder, replace spark plug, and try running motor again. if the compression is low on said cylinder, could be due to bad piston rings. requiring a motor rebuild.

What would cause an inconstant miss in a 95 geo prizm? we have changed the plugs and wires, main brain box, map sensor and the ecm. what else could it be?

Find the cylinder that is missing, and check the compression on the cylinder. If the miss is not narrowed down to one,or two cylinders, then run a compression test on all the cylinders,if while testing one cylinder, and the gauge fluctuates up and down, then check the one next to it,it it also is doing this, then the head gasket is leaking compression into one another.
