hello there

The problem is with the gear oil. To keep ahead of the rest BMW started what they call life time oil for their gear boxes, though that sounds great it doesn't really work in reality, they have now gone back to recommending a gear oil change every 60k miles.

In short you need to change your gear oil and soon, the oil in your gear box is no longer effective and will damage the gear box. You'll need about 5 litres for your car and costs around £15 a litre, expensive stuff!! I had the same problem with my 328i auto, the dealer was clueless and kept quoting the lifetime oil, I changed the oil and the problem has gone and it's so much smoother.

Hope this helps, please don't forget to rate me.

How to change backrest seat gear that is inside the seat motor to 1996 bmw 328i convertible?

Go to the website. They sell the plastic gear for $40 and they post excellent instructions for how to replace it.
You need to remove the seat from the car. It is rather heavy and awkward. Put old socks over the ends of the seat rails that bolt to the floor because the tips of those rails are razor sharp and will cut your interior, your exterior, and you if you don't cover them
Be careful not to over-tighten the screws that hold the cover on the gearbox. Those screws are not very strong so they are easy to twist off.

How do I remove the back seat / backrest from a bmw 328IC 1997

Remove the headrests (if equipped). Grip the lower seat at the front part of the seat and pull upwards to clear the clips(1), and the remove the lower seat.
Fold down the armrest and remove the bolts behind the armrest. The upper seat(backrest) is then pushed up, pulled forward and then moved either left or right out of the vehicle from behind the seatbelts.

My 1995 BMW convertible is leaking from the drivers side. The water is comming in from the top of the window, why is this happening?

Inspect the door seals. Make sure they make proper contact with the window/door. Also check that they are intact and not broken or out of place. Sometimes they get a bit worn and porous and let some water in. Other times it's just a matter of pushing it back into place.

Convertable won't open

There is a pull cord under the driver's side rear seat. Pull hard on it and you will dis-engage the top from the electric motor. I DO NOT know how to get it back engaged, but you probably need to take it in to your mechanic anyway. Unfortunately, when I discovered how to use the manual method of opening, it cost me $800.00 for a new convertable top motor! Good luck! Ric

Im not quite shure of the location from your description, But if there is a electric motor in the trunk it operate's the convertable roof and is always a good idea to keep your electric's dry.

gears are probably not engaged. take the seat out, see if the motor drive gear is still within the teeth of the seat rail. if not, force it in. Easy to take out, 4 bolts and the seat comes up and out.
