Question about 2001 Subaru Legacy Outback

The driver's door of my Subaru outback won't unlock

I can get the driver's door open with the remote nor the key. I tried to wiggle the door, to open it from the inside or to press the lock nob to unlock position but nothing work. Is there an easy fix?

I read this page and glad I'm not the first with the problem. I went out (climbed over the passenger seat again) and jiggled the heck out of the lock back and forth and suddenly it unlocked! It'll be much easier to fix now.

It appears that the plastic clip on the door controls has broken . need to remove the door cover or trim card and repair/ replace clips . not verry expensive to buy

I should mention that it happened before but it unlocked itself as I was driving.

So how can I take the door apart if I can't open it?

Tricky. I have found in the past that removing the seat is the best option allowing access to door. If you know of a good wis bang car theif then they can open from mechanism down between the glass and the panel

I have a 2001 Outback Ltd Wagon. Driver's door is closed and locked....and won't unlock with remote/ keyless entry/ key. Any help would be great!

You will have to remove the seat from the other side ,then get the door panel off to see what the problem is ,offhand i cannot think as the lock should be seperate and even in a failsafe position it should open from the inside so i can only assume that a metal link bar had dropped off and jammed the lock into the locked position but no doubt iam wrong as i very often am but the only way to find out is to get the door panel off

Reset key fob

Unlock all doors, foot on brake, all doors closed. Cycle key quickly but carefully on-off appr 10 times until the car honks one time.

Do not turn the key far enough to start the car, just to the 'on' position so the dashboard lights up.

When the horn honks, open and close the driver's door, press any remote button and that's it.

Program another remote? Quickly open and close the driver's door again and push a button on the 2nd remote. That's it.

When you're done, remove the key and the horn should honk 3 times. You're all set.
Sometime it takes more than 10 on-offs to set program mode. Open/close the door, lock/unlock etc, wait 10 minutes, then try again

2005 subaru outback immobilizer reset? Alarm was set with door being unlocked with key, immobilizer shut off all power. How can this be reset?

This could be a few things. If the security system was enabled and you just unlocked the door with a key and not using the remote, then all you have to do is put the key in the ignition and turn on/off three times. That's it!

Some cars have immobilizer keys. The immobilizer prevents unauthorized keys from starting the car (yours may or may not have it, depending on the exact Outback model).

Look here for the different styles of immobilizer keys: keys

It is a key system and when the drivers door is unlocked all the doors and rear hatch are supposed to unlock. Sometimes they do not. 1996 subarulegacy/outback

in some markets,if you turn the key quickly only the drivers door will unlock, you have to hold the key over longer to open all the doors.(so the driver can not be attacked by robbers from the passengers side or rear.....ladies handbags are a good source of income...)

I think you have to have the key in the ignition, and set to "ON" with the driver door open and holding the unlock button down for several seconds. At least that works on my Forester.
