I know that it is a job that is best kept in the shop. My transmission was starting to break and it kept jumping gears. The mechanics let me see the whole process of taking it out and it was very tedious.

transmission and engine have to be removed as a unit and taken out the bottom of the car by removing the it along with sub frame assembly as a whole... if u have access to a lift its much easier to do cause you can then support the sub frame then just lift the car off to gain access to trasmission

How to replace a transmission on a 1993 plymouth sundance

many would think that this is a hard task, but it really isnt, all you need, is to sufficiently lift your vehacil to be able to get underneath it, disconnect your gas pedals from the transmission, via the engine bay, remove the exhaust system, disconnect the starter motor from the bottom, and take out all the bolts holding the trasmission in place, there should be a mount about in the center, connected to the trasmision which is what is mostly holding it in place, then gently move the trannsmission down and towards the back of the car, little by little, if it is a manual, u will need to disconnect the slave sylinder, then take your new transmission, and just follow the steps in a reverse order, finishing with connecting pedals. this is pretty easy, taking into account that a handful of highschool students(including me) removed the trasmission, clutch and flywheel, and replaced all of those in a matter of days(only 2 school hours a day).

No the engine does not need to come out. But the whole front suspension and everything on that side will need to come off in order to remove the tranny. It will drop out the bottom also

Need to locate inlet/speed sensor on trasmission

Look on the engine, not the transmission. It should be below the air intake manifold on top. I haven't done one of these in a while so search around and let me know how you make out.
