Can you hear a humming noise coming from the gas tank when you turn the key to the run postion?

Have someone listen by the fuel door and listen for a humming noise as you turn the key on for 5 seconds and then offfor 10 seconds do that 2 or 3 times if no huming noise then the fuel pump is burned out,or you can disconect the fuel line that comes to the engine and have someons watch as you turn the key on,if the fuel pump is working it will spray out fuel

Is it the carberator type with two injector in it? You can try and test the injector power connectors to see if there getting power by taking a test light or a multimeter, ground to ground on battery and hold the possitve on each wire as someone turns it over.chech each injector to see if there getting power,if there getting power as the engine is being turned over then injectors are no good.another thing to look into is the ignition module. If it isn't working or if it got fried then it would give problems as you described.Does it got a distribiter or is it electronic?

Try to find some used injecters and try that new one are expensive. If there getting power then they should work if there good. They can be confusing and throw you in the wrong girection.I had a 91 cavelier do the same thing run for a few seconds and quit, thought it was the fuel pump but the fuel pump was working, changed injector, changed fuel pressure regulator and after changing all that never help it.I finally narrowed it down to ne igniton module so it can be confusing.

The ECM (Engine Control Module) could have been damaged when the battery was connected backwards. I agree with what lymand855 said as well but your problems could be worse if the ECM is damaged.

Its BOTH, sort of....TBI Throttle Body Injection. If you look into the carb with engine running, you will see the injector spraying fuel onto the butterfly.

Where is the fuel filter located on 1986 cyrsler lebaron

There could be 3 of them. One in the tank with the fuel pump. 1 in the fuel line at the tank and a 3rd in line under the hood. It depends if you have a carburator or fuel injection.
If you have fuel injection you need to release the pressure BEFORE you change the filter. To do that remove the gas cap from the tank. Then remove the electrical connection from the injector. Connect a jumper wire from one terminal to ground and a second wire from the second terminal to the positive battery post for 10 seconds. Remove the jumper wires and change your filter. Hope this helps..

FUEL NOT GETTING TO INJECTERS GOES BACK TO RETURN LINE TO TANK

Check to see if the 15 amp EFI fuse is blown.
