Question about 2002 Volkswagen Cabrio

Car turns over but doesn't start

I just Recently washed down the engine and detailed the engine. I tried starting the car and it will not start. I have done everything I could think about. I have: Checked for spark, taken the distributor cap off to check for moisture, checked the plugs for moisture, check the ignition coil blown out all electrical connections possible. the car is getting spark. we've checked the breather tube and also sprayed starter fluid in it with still no fire (I really hate to use the starter fluid but figured I'd give it a shot) and we have checked the fuel pump fuse located on the drivers side near the brake pedal. We were looking in the "Haynes" manual for a relay for the fuel pump and any other fuses for the fuel pump but were unable to find. Any knowledge to this problem would be great! I've learned one thing, if you have extra time DO NOT clean your engine.

Yeah, Dad woke up Sunday morning and wanted to try one more thing, so we put a few squirts of oil into the manifold and the car started right up. So i took the car around the block and came to a stop sign then the car started missing and as soon as you pressed the accelerator the car would stall. the car was then a little hard to start but once started I could run it at idle or rev the engine and hold it at any rpm and it would run with no hesitation or burps in it but as soon as I would put it into gear it would stall? hmmmmmm makes ya wonder what it could be. by then I was so irriated with working on it all weekend that I called the tow truck sunday to take it to the shop. I would play with it more but I travel for a living and just didn't have time. Thanks so much for your response. if you don't mind me asking what kinda price was that computer?

On a wild guess from past experience, it is possible that water got in to the main ignition computer (that happened to me {expensive!}), and thus caused permanent damage. It is also possible that water damaged other critical electronic circuit areas.

You may have to get the car in to a place that can run diagnostics to determine the exact failure.

Washed the engine and my toyota corolla will turn over but will not start, what is wrong with it?

Also using a water displacement will help such as a slight spray of WD-40 lubricant. This learned while working at a car wash doing detailing cars and cleaning hundreds of engines!

Car will not start when ignition key is turned. All warning lamps light up, enginee doesn't even try to start even with the clutch depressed

1. So the car was running normally and then on one occasion you put in the key to start it and all the warning lights flash up on the dash and the starter motor will not turn the engine over. Is that correct.

2. When you last drove the car were any warning lights appearing on the dash.such as check engine warning, engine overheating, electrical charging warnings etc.\

3. Has any work been carried out on the car recently.

4. How old is the battery in the car.

Why doesn't my car stay started?

try giving it a little fuel to keep it going. if it still goes but will shakes and splutters and coughs before smoothing out it sounds like fuel is draining back from your engine to the tank. if you have an electric fuel primer pump that turns on when you turn the ignition to on you should be able to hear an electric whine unless your car either does not feature one or its not audiable/ possibly not working. leave your car at "on" for 10 seconds then try starting it as well. see if it improves

My 1991 honda civic wont start. when i turn the key the engine turns over but it never actually starts to run. it smells like gas. we tried the main rely, but that didnt work either?

The cylinders are probably washed down with fuel and it doesn't have enough compression to start. You need to also check to see if it is getting ignition spark. There are several thing it may be. The quickest thing you can try is let it sit overnight and then in the morning push the gas pedal to the floor and try starting it to clear flood it if it is not starting due to being flooded and cylinders being washed down with fuel. You should pull out a spark plug and see if its wet with fuel. If it is remove all the plugs and dry them out and maybe squirt a very small amount of oil down each cylinder to help seal the rings to bring up the compression. Do not get carried away with putting oil in the cylinders so you dont hydro lock the engine.
