Question about 2000 Volkswagen Cabrio
O ring had a leak so replaced that as well as a oil coolant, then light keeps flashing on and of thus: new pump and gasket goes on and offf after bout 35min of driver after pump replaced and was about 20min before driving round before the light cAME on before new oil pump
Have you replaced the sending unit for the oil light yet, do that now and that will likely fix the problem. The sender will be near the oil filter most likely.

That car has a dynamic oil presure system, check if the high and low oil presure senders are good, and make sure you have the correct oil and filter, that car uses 20w-50, any other would give you this problem.

SOURCE: Oil Leak
Take the car to a car wash and power wash the engine. Do this ONLY with a cold engine. And be prepared to have problems with it starting as water get's into the electrical components. Take some WD-40 with you to spray inside distributor caps, on spark wiring, etc. to get the engine running again.
Then check the engine weekly to see where the oil is coming from.

the noise is the chain tensioner in the cylinder head between the two camshafts. it is a job for a proffesional shop. the 1.8t passats had an oiling problem and were fixed with a larger oil filter. some times you have to remove the oilpan and replace the oil pickup tube.

If the idle goes down below 600 rpm it will trigger this alarm, inadequete rpm to create oil pressure, consider adressing this issue if it exists. If this is not the case and the car has more than 150,000 miles on it remove the oil pan and replace the oil pump, I will warn you however that the usual reason why oil pressure drops off is because the connecting rod bearing clearances have opened up thereby allowing to much oil to pass by them connecting rod bearings should be done at the time of oil pump replacement.
