Sorry ....after some research I found it. There is 3 different modules in the vehicle that can report that code. I dont know if your scan tool will tell you what module or modules are reporting this code. This code is set when one of the module does not get data on where the transmission range sensor is PND21. This sounds more like a network concern than a sensor problem. The sensor that inputs the info is the transmission range sensor. location is on top of the transmission ...the one with the shift cable hooked to it.

  • lebeaujared Nov 26, 2012

so do you think that i should replace that. Also what does it mean when you said network concern.

I would not replace the transmission range sensor at this time. What I mean by network concern is...The transmission range sensor data is broadcasted over a network for other modules to use. u1059 will set in every module that does not get that info over the network. these modules are connected throught a hardwire connection. If one of the wires is broken in the network it can set code u1059. I Would check and see if your scan tool look at transmission range data. If it can watch the data when shifting the manual lever through park, rev ect. and see if it matches on the scan tool. If it does than the sensor is good and your concern is more like a network problem.

SOURCE: Cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor

i will try to help. 171/174 indicates lean condition in engine. the mass air flow sensor is located in the rubber tube going to throttlebody. you can try to clean it. using mild carb cleaner safe for sensors, remove sensor from tube. spray clean the tiny wires located in the cylinder. do not touch them, they are very delicate. these engines are also notorious for leaking intake gaskets and faulty pcv valves. these will all set these 2 codes. feel free with anymore questions.

SOURCE: Ford Freestar Shut off problem

It is normal for the check engine light to come on anytime the engine stops running. If I were you and I took it to the shop I wouldn't say anything about what has been tried because it obviously isn't the problem. If you know someone that has a code reader or better yet someone that has an Autotap code reader have them check for error codes in the PCM.
If you have high millage on the van It could be a fuel problem such as a plugged fuel filter our even a fuel pump going bad. Can be checked with a pressure gauge hooked to the fuel rail.
On Freestars when the engine just dies they will set many different codes. Not all of them point to the problem, some of them set just because the engine died and was not turned off.

What are the meaning of the codes on my diagnostic unit for my ford Freestar?

U1059 - SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Transmission / Transaxle / PRNDL
U1027 - SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Engine RPM
U1009 - SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Engine Torque
These are communication codes from one computer to another. I would have to see it on a scanner. But, since your transmission computer and engine computer are in the same housing, it is most likely an internal problem.

How to fix a p0741 code on 2005 ford freestar?

That is a Torque Converter Clutch code it is reading that the circuit performance is stuck off. try these solutions one at a time. 1. check transmission fluid level. 2. add lucus trans treatment. 3. replace sensor. 4 replace torque Converter. Erase code after each action.

No error code trans not engaging with no warning

There could be many reasons relating to this problem. But inspect the cv joints at the transmission side. Inner joint of one of the cv joints may have slipped out of its position.

Code B1342, U1009, U1027, U1059

What your doing continuing to drive it with ANY
Transmission issues, will ruin the trans & most likely
has already

At the very least your going to have to remove the valve body
& clean it & update it

May as well just pull the unit & rebuild it ,seeing as it is
a transaxle & the one out there with the most problems
& shortest life span

May I suggest you sell it & stay away from vans forever

I know they are popular & having owned a trans shop, i know
there are too many issues to own one & they are not a safe
vehicle if you get in an accident,so much so, I won't ride in one

I only drove them to road test after a trans repair, when i had
the shop & never since

Same exact problem as described on 2005 ford freestar van

It is likely you have a defective vehicle speed sensor, but in order to confirm this you must have the dealer or well equipped shop test the system for fault codes. Based on what is found the proper repairs are performed to correct this issue.

I have a Ford Freestar 2005 with this diagnosis: P0401 EGR. I want to know if this is the cause that the minivan won't move on DRIVE or REVERSE or any other . Like it stays in NEUTRO.

P0401 is insufficent flow to the EGR,and has nothing to do with your trans trouble-check to see if the fluid it up to where it should be on your trans dipstick. If it is, the only other thing that might be happening (without costing a small fortune for a new/rebuilt trans) is the cable from the shifter to the position sensor (or the sensor itself) is bad, misaligned or broken. Otherwise, you are looking at internal trans issues.

Check engine light came on then trans started acting up looked under the car and there is a wire hanging under the trans.fluid pan.it looks like this wire came unpluged from the trans.where do i plug this...

You need to have codes pull from your computer, if you don't have a scan tool go to any auto parts or some one like autozone and then will do it for free, once you get that code it will let you know where to start looking at, if your still not sure, get back with us with the code number here at FixYa so we can help you with your trouble code. That harness could also be for some else that your don't used and just there, some time's Ford will used the same harness on a few of there car's.
