we checkd the switch and its getting fuel pressure. ee think timing chain slipped when i lost oil pressure. the car went one block then died. i didn't know i sliced through oil filter. mobile mechanic says half the engine isnt getting compression auto shop said unless i want to spend 2000 fixing it i would Junk it without even looking at it i don't want to junk it if its just a timing chain dont think i drove far enough to damage engine. forgive me im just the wife my hubby explaind it better

I'm guessing its a 2.3 liter engine? If the timing chain is off far enough to cause two cylinders to lose compression than all four cylinders would have a loss of compression. I suspect that a combonation of overheating and lack of oil pressure may have resulted in a more severe problem than just a timing chain being off. Is the $2000 estimate for a used engine?

  • Nate Whaley Nov 27, 2012

the 2000 is what it's gonna cost to fix my engine now but its ridiculous because i can grt a used one even a new engine for a lot less. thr cars been good to me for 6 yrs no problems as long as upkeep is kept u don't want to let her go but then again she 'll be 10 yrs ild in a few months it might be time to trade her in for a younger hotter model my wife gonna cry

What was the compression readings when you tested it? Have you checked for fuel pressure? There is an inertia switch that will trip in the event of an accident. This will stop power from being delivered to the fuel pump. The switch is usually located on the passenger side of the car behind the trim panel to the right of the footwell area.

No compression front collision impact from accident more likely damaged the engine.

SOURCE: my 2006 Ford Focus ST 2.5 has sucked oil filter

If the filter media goes for an extended period of time without an oil change it may load up with contaminates and collapse. The filter itself should be of a good quality, and installed properly without any twist during the installation. I use Napa transmission assembly lube(a green colored grease) on the rubber parts of the filter to allow the filter to slip when screwing in the housing.

there is also a small valve body you are supposed to replace when replaceing the phasers... also there is a ssm for replacing the valve lash adjusters. alot of time the small engine tick you hear can be a cracked exhaust manifold too so checking those really close is heavily advised because the cracks are really hard to see sometimes. i have seen broken push rods on these engines and they can be a pain to pinpoint where the noise is comming from. hope this helps

if it has no compression it can be head gasket , cracked head or the rings are soft and not sealing

Why is fuel leaking in the area of the oil filter?

If you have fuel & gas mixing together the only way that's possible is the cylinder head or engine block are cracked or the gasket is faulty. Runs rough? Hard start? Black smoke from tailpipe? Check for those black plugs & GET A COMPRESSION TEST ASAP!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck Frank M

Oil leak

Not sure where your oil pressure sender is on that engine, but usually they are close to the filter. Or perhaps leaning on the top of the engine, like the fill cap, cracked something. Another possibility is a bad gasket on the new oil filter or overfill by 1 quart.

2001 ford taurus that wont start. I am getting fuel pressure. I installed new plugs, wires, and coil pack. There is pressure in the radiator fill tank just from trying to start the car. Is that norma

Take off the radiator fill cap.
Top off the radiator.
Crank the engine.

Are there bubbles or is there water spouting out of the radiator fill hole?

Yes: likely cylinder head gasket failure or cracked header.

No: Pressure test cooling system after topping off with a pressure tester. Locate source of leak.

Assuming the water leak isn't anything to do with the non-starting situation, which it probably is though form the sound of it, also check the following:

1) Air filter
2) Fuel filter
3) Manifold Air Pressure sensor.
4) Mass Air Flow sensor.

2003 ford escape wont start

Check intake, compression, ignition, exhaust & vacuum. If the intake &/or the exhaust is blocked/clogged it won't run.
If the radiator acts like old faithful while you crank it, it has a blown head gasket, cracked head & or a cracked block.
If the radiator is dry or has very little in it, check the oil & the exhaust for antifreeze/water.
If you find antifreeze/water in the oil &/or the exhaust, it has a blown head gasket or cracked head/block.
Check the compression. If water/antifreeze shoots out of the spark plug holes (take all the spark plugs out for the compression test) during the compression test, it has a blown head gasket &/or a cracked head/block.
Check the ignition w/a spark plug tester that you can buy at parts stores for $10 or less. Some of them you just hold the tip close to the plug wire or touch the rubber boot on the spark plug so the tester can pick up the pulse from the wire/plug via induction. Others are put in line between the plug wire & plug.
Unplug the computer connectors & check for corrosion. You can clean them by plugging/unplugging the connectors multiple times or maybe you can use a small piece of emery cloth or an emery board. Make sure to blow any dust out of the connector.
Check the vacuum hoses. All hoses on a vehicle get brittle & crack w/age, then they leak. Use a vacuum gage to check vacuum.
I hope that you find the solution & get your Ford running again.

My car either has a cracked block, needs head gasket or? When I put water in the radiator, it comes out the oil pan without starting the engine.

I think a cracked block would be very unlikely. More than likely to be a head gasket problem. A decent mechanic shouldn't have any trouble pressure testing each cylinder to diagnose the fault. I'm assuming it's a V8? there are other possible causes also. Cracked head, faulty inlet manifold (v8, if it has water jackets in the manifold). I would have it checked out before assuming it needs a motor.

Timming chains....... engines not starting, just rotates and blows water out of the radiator when caps off. points and sparks lokks good, I sucpect, it might be the T/chains

Hello robtui: My name is Roger and I will help with your problem. The engine cranks over and does not start? Collant is belched out of the radiator? Problem is a warped head(s).Blown head gasket or cracked head. Remove the spark plugs fill the coolant system and you should see coolant fill and run out a spark plug hole. The engine should of had a miss before this happend. You could also do a compression test instead of filling the radiator and looking for coolant to run out. Either way you will find a cylinder compression leaking to the coolant passage. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

If there is crack in the block there will be symptoms. The easiest way to tell this is to do a compression test on all the cylinders. You can pick up a compression tester at any automotive store. A cracked cylinder or head will have much lower compression. The key will be a dramatic difference of compression between cylinders rather than absolute compression.
