Question about 2004 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

Dash lights flicker and or go out on 04 Chrysler Sebring Conv.

This has been a problem for a few years now.

My dash lights will blink bright/dim no matter what position the dimmer switch is set to. It started a couple years back and they would only blink a few times and then would be perfectly fine. I didn't have this checked due to money issues and it wasn't annoying enough for me to care. More recently (in the past year) the dash lights will just shut off, both while driving (on smooth roads and rough) and even while stoped, say at a light.

I did take the whole dash board out once to see if there was any loose connections but there is only one connection so my guess is if that was loose I would lose my speed-o-meter/temp/gas/RPM gauges as well.

Have any ideas? Need more information?

I have a 2004Chrysler Sebring Sedan with the exact same problem. It isn't just the dash lights. The Headlamps and tail lights flicker as well. It has been doing this for a year now. I have replaced the alternator because I was told that it was over charging the battery. No shop can tell me what the problem is, and since in nothing more than a nuisance we kind of ignore the flicker.

On thedash of my 2003 sedan sebring ,My dash ilumination lights for the speed,temp,tack\rpm and fuel are unlit.
I found that there is a paper thin plastic across and behind all four of these gauges which lights up all four gauges,if working correctly, There is a very poor connection to this thin film lighting system ,basicaly a wire terminal used as a staple and that very well could be your problem.
It as far as I know would require whole gauge assembly replacement! because dealers dont sell such small portions of some assemblies!
I myself will attempt to crimp this poor connection on my car without damaging thin film! there are no bulbs for those four gauges too iluminate!

Think your right the electrical schematic is outdated still shows incandesent bulbs. You can identify this set up by looking at the instrument panel printed circuit board it has a 2 pin plug in the centre and 2 wires going through a lamp holder opening to a choke(transformer). 2 wires emerge from the choke to the blue screen with spade connectors, Web searched extensively for comments without sucess. With the engine off lights ON try listening very very carefully a faint hum or buzz is heard when the instrument panel is working ok.

This is a common problem with chryslers its your inverter that goes to that flimsy plastic, you can buy on line its blue a little bigger but just fit it in there it will hold 99.9% certain.

Locked keys in trunk 2000 sebring how can i get to them

Here is how I done it with my 2002 Sebring LimitedIf the car has a release button on dashboard but you don't have keys to turn on ignition, (they locked in trunk) remove fuse cover (end of dash drivers side) remove fuse marked for dash lights and PRND1234 leave for 2 or 3 min then while holding trunk release button re-insert fuse and trunk release should work

My dash lights and radio lights blink from bright

It sounds like a poor Ground connection, Start by checking the connector that connects to the Instrument Cluster then see if one wire is terminated to the Metal components of the Dash Board. This would be the Master Ground connection for ALL Instrument lights and typically would include any other Lights on the Same Circuit. You will most likely find a loose sheet metal screw making this Ground Connection. With a high resistance connection the lights would be somewhat dim. If they flash between Dim and Bright it is an intermittent connection causing it. Almost always this will be found to be a loose screw connecting the Ground to the Chassis.

Lights dim while driving

Have your charging system checked. I had a similar problem with a chrysler van - the lights would brighten and then dim periodically. it turned out to be the battery.

well to make sure it is the laternator start the car and pull the positive battery cable. if the car dies it is the alternator. and usually even on the new cars. it is easy to get to. just look at the front of the hood for the belt diagram and it will tell you how to release the belt.
