Was taking the water pump off, but in order to do so i had to take timing belt off. there is a tensioner but it looks like u have to put it in a press to get it to go down. the tensioner doesnt look like to can loosen it to get it to go down.

Did you remove the sprocket ? If so you will have to set the marks exactly to time it right. Would you please tell us more on what exactly you did. I don't understand if it's the belt only that you removed or you removed something else . Or did you turn the engine while the belt was off ?

Make sure the timing belt tensioner is loosened, then retension it after the belt is on

It's possible, but the timing needs to be retained. The ramifications of getting it wrong are far outweighed by getting it done professionally!

Have you tried filling at the motor, header tank or radiator. You may need a new cap or you could have grass or something block the airflow at the front of the radiator, possible head gasket, does it run rough when first started then clear up?

Mazda millenia problems

here are a few problems to look out for:

Check-engine light: Check engine light comes on due to carbon buildup on the exhaust valves of 2.5L engine. (1995-02)

Engine noise: Some engines make a metallic tapping noise requiring a new friction-gear spring on the camshaft. (1995)

Headlights: The headlight drain hoses can get kinked by the aiming screws causing fogging. (1995-96)

Keys: It may be hard to turn the ignition key because the steering shaft is not positioned correctly. (1995)

Steering problems: The steering wheel may be off center requiring adjustment of the tie rods. (1995). You can also have a look at the following website where some owner have given their opinions on owning one. http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/mazda/millenia/r68654/comments/

How to change the timing belt

My sincere apologies for the severly delayed response.
I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions. I have only been on this site for the past 4-months as a free contributor.

I do not know if you still need this information, however I am answering it in case you still do.

Click on the following direct Link. It has several Diagrams for your 2000 Mazda Millenia Timing Belt.

As far as how: It would take literally dozens of Pages using this type of forum on the Step-by-Step Procedures on Removal, Installion, and Putting back together; including Torque Specifications of all Bolts and Nuts. I would strongly suggest purchasing a Haynes or Chilton's Manual, available at most auto parts store for $20-$25. They have the complete guidelines, diagrams, and phots you will need.

Again my apologies...
Let me know if this helped, or if you have additional information or questions. Feel Free to contact me at FixYa.com!

No compression

Dont worry to much the Millenia is a non-interference engine so the valves did not get bent. You just need to re-adjust the belt again in its proper position.
