95 Honda Accord (181k miles): slipping out of 5th gear

On trip; 70mph, popped out of 5th gear with increasing frequency. I could feel shift lever pushing back. could hold in gear for a while with forward pressure but shortly had to finish trip in 4th. Most likely prognosis, rebuild or replacement? What might something like that cost? Any recommended US repair chains? I hate getting ripped off - who do you trust for good work and fair price? Thanks. Loyd

I am hoping that you have checked the fluid level. It sounds like it could be the converter. depending on the shop and the area your in, it costs around $800 and up.

Car shifts hard (up & down), especially shifting to reverse.

that delayed reaction may be the transmission slipping. with those many miles it could be the transmission going bad

Slips between gears.

well I guess I will say change the fluid again and change the filter- you simply do not have enough miles to be transmission failure- so my guess wil be the shift solenoid as well - contact dealer to confirm. They will have to change with solenoid anyway.I sold my last honda with 275,000 miles and it had a hard life- no issues ever
