2002 Ford Explorer power windows stopped working.

All four power windows stopped working all at once. I had the driver side door open and the windows operated one more time shortly after the problem started, but now the windows are stuck in the up position.

The power window relay in the fuse panel is not listed inthe owner's manual. Does anyone know which panel and which relay it is?

  • nnehk Jan 09, 2009

I do not know which relay is for the power windows and whether or not it is in the fuse panel under the dash or the one in the engine compartment.

I do not have the diagram, but I think there is no relay on the fuse box for this model.

Check the following websites and follow instructions, read with particular attention the first two:

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, since all would not function and the individual switches are tied to the master switch, then it would most likely be the multi-switch assembly. Of course a confirmation with voltage/resistance check would be necessary. Incidentally, I was made to understand that there was a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) relating to rear power windows. This might interest you.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Though I doubt if it were the power window fuse/breaker, said fuse/breaker would be 30 AMPS # 62 in the main fuse/relay box in the engine compartment.

Check the relays, fuses, and the control module

Posted on Jan 09, 2009

  • machadojr_fe Jan 09, 2009

the panels should all be labeled, the fuse box could be under he steering wheel in some it is in the glove compartment or underneath, and the relays are in a housing in the engine compartment and on the top of the housing if you flip it over it will tell you which relay is where.

In the power distribution box, in the engine compartment,WHICH IS LIVE -
DISCONNECT YOUR NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE - there is a 30 amp circuit
breaker for the 4 power windows ( at least on the 4 door there is ) The circuit
breaker is supposed to reset itself, but some breakers need to be reset manually
or replaced when they malfunction. It is in location # 62.

All four windows stopped working at once

One of two things. First the master switch on the driver side died (unlikely) next, you lost power or ground to the switch. Wires break. Open the drivers door. Look to the front, you will see a rubber boot going from the car to the door. This is usually where the wires break. Just a note. When they break here, I solder a wire to the car side and run it into the door side, cut it in to the appropriate wire. trying to fix them in the jam is a real pain and doesn't last long.

Windows stopped working all of a sudden. first rear passenger side then the rest. how can I fix this?

Check fuses and wire harness to door for correct connection. Check on the fuse box cover as it will show a relay that can also be faulty.

Why would all my windows stop working at once in a 2002 ford explorer

The drivers door has a master switch that supplies power and (I think) grounds to all the windows, it's possible that the master switch is bad. Another common problem with the 02 Explorers is the wiring. The wiring bundle from the inside of the vehicle going through the harness inside a rubber boot can cause problems from the continuous movement of the door. I have found wires stressed where they have broke. Check these areas.
Good luck

Power windows stopped working

If the power to the illumination and the switches is out in the door, I would say it is a broken wire in the A-pillar to the door on the driver's side.

This is a Light Blue w/ Black stripe wire, it powers both the illumination and the windows themselves.

2002 explorer power window fuse where

In the battery Junction Box check fuse # 6-60AMP will feed Central Junction Box (under driver side), the inline circuit breaker #47-30AMP, through the Accessory Delay Relay, powered by fuse #17-15AMP to the Window Control Circuit. Check the fuses, and for 12v at the points. Then check for 12v at the driver side door switch pannel.

Also uou should check the plug into the main window button console in your drivers door. The little piece of plastic around the door handle pops out when pushed towards the front of the vehicle. This gives you access to the buttons and harnesses.

Good luck (remember rated this help).

How do I fix the problem of all 4 power windows

See if you have power coming out of the master power window switch when a button is pushed down. Remove a door panel and check for power at the window motor with the switch pushed. If you do not have power it could be the master switch. Good luck.

2002 Ford Explorer, rear driver side door

Wil it work at the door switch or not at either switch? If not make sure you have power and ground to the motor in up and down positions. if so suspect the motor. Also the cable operated regulators break and will not let the window go up or down

2002 Ford Explorer - Drivers side door lock, rear

Aside from the fuses, your drive side power door lock may be failing to work because of a bad door-lock relay system, or, alternatively, the locking switch/button, itself, is not malfunctioning and in need of replacement.

A great handyman site that specifies the above probable causes and more is the following link:
