How do you split the transfer case from the gear box on a Jeep Cherokee 1997 model

Once the output shaft cone is removed and all the case half bolts are taken out all that holds it together is the anaerobic sealer gel, you just use a putty knife and work your way around the edges to split the case open into the two halves of the casting.

Transfer case removal

first remove both front and rear driveshafts. Then remove skid plate underneath transfer case. Remember to unplug the electric motor wiring harness for explorers with electronic four wheel drive switching. Remove vacuum line on the top of transfer case. Unbolt Speedometer cable mount from top/rear of transfer case. Remove five bolts connecting the transfer case to the transmission, this step will cause some transmission fluid to leak from the shaft housing (approx. half a litre) so place a drain pan underneath. Remember to either place a jack or wood blocking under transfer case before removing the last bolt connecting the transfer case as it is heavy (approx. 80-90 lbs.).

Front drive shaft/transfer case removal 03 chevy trailblazer 4wd

Sounds like you got it. They are heavy and ocward (spelling?). As for the front drive shaft take the bolts out and give it a couple of wacks with a dead blow hammer then slide it out. Maybe a few days before hand give it a good spray down with wd40 or like product. Also when you get to the last bolt for the t-case to trans loosen it half way then put a drain bucket under it and seperate it a little and let the trans fluid drain some, or you will be wearing it.

Transmission fluid leaking back, 1988 Ford Bronco

your output seal on the tranny or input seal on your transfer case is bad. you have to pull your transfer case to tell. this is a pretty straight forward job. block wheels. put transfer case in neutral. drop front and rear drive lines.diconnect transfer case shift linkage. there is a short commponent connecting the trans to the transfer case. the bolt on either end face each other. remove the bolts to the transmission. the transfer case is heavier than it looks, i suggest getting help. pull back on the transfer case until it will drop down. it will pull out a bit because of the trans output shaft. replace what will probibly turn out to be the tranny output shaft seal and reassemble in reverse order.

Won,t shift transfer case into 4wheel drive

Is the truck on the fly 4X4 push button or is there a lever on the floor you pull into 4 wheel drive? Located on the back of the transfer case not hard to change few bolts and a wire harness. Does the front drive shaft turn when you put it in 4x4 and the front wheels won't ingage? If so then its not your transfer case its the actulator on the front axle at the gear hub or pumpkin it will have two 10mm bolts and a black plastic cover if so remove cover and spray actulator shaft with wd-40.
